The 26 Best Boise Restaurants to Try Right Now - Eater

"For more than two decades, Epi’s has been bringing traditional Basque dishes to the residents of the Treasure Valley. Inspired by the life and recipes of Maria Epifania Lamiquis-Inchausti, the Meridian restaurant has passed from the eponymous matriarch’s granddaughters to her great-grandson. (The family is also related to the Ansoteguis of Ansots). The kitchen turns out excellent croquetas, lamb stew with green peppers and pimentos, meatballs in a Basque-style tomato sauce, and baby squid in a briny, jet-black broth. No visit is complete without gateau Basque for dessert." - Scott Ki, Scott Wink

My husband and I went to Epi's for our 5-year anniversary after hearing so many great things about it. We knew it would be a bit pricey but were looking forward to the experience and the food. Unfortunately, we left disappointed. We had reservations and were seated immediately, which was nice, but we were surprised by how loud it was in such a small space, it felt a bit overwhelming. The service, however, was excellent. Our server was attentive and kind, which we truly appreciated. Sadly, the food didn't live up to the hype. We ordered an amber beer ($7) and a vanilla soda ($4.50), the Croquetas de Jamón ($16) for an appetizer, and for our main courses, the Meatballs ($32) and Smothered Garlic Chicken ($32). Each entrée came with fries, a choice of soup (mushroom or bean), salad, and rice. The fries were decent but overly salty. My husband chose the bean soup, which unfortunately tasted like it came straight from a can of beans, bland and unseasoned. I had the mushroom soup, which was a little better but still overly salty, and I usually like salty foods. The croquetas were rich, very salty as well, but passable. Oddly enough, the plain side salad was the highlight of the meal, fresh and paired with a really tasty dressing. As for the entrées: the meatballs were underwhelming, tasting like plain, unseasoned meatballs in a basic red sauce. The accompanying rice on both plates tasted like a frozen microwave rice and veggie blend from the grocery store. My chicken dish was extremely rich and salty, I only managed a few bites before deciding I was done. While the food wasn’t awful, it was far from memorable, especially given the price. I was also disappointed with the presentation, everything was served very plainly and didn't look particularly appetizing as you can see from the photos. Our total came to $125 with tip, and we decided to skip dessert after the disappointing entrees. All in all, I’m glad we tried Epi’s once, but I wouldn’t recommend it and don’t plan to return. For the cost and all the hype, I expected far better quality and flavor.

Nice cozy atmosphere, bit pricey for the portion, definitely a date night thing, but for bigger peeps, you'll still be hungry. But really good food. Gotta make reservations!!! Service is top notch. Bread: really good, seems freshly baked. Chowder: Chowder The fried spears: I forgot, must not have been memorable. Beef tongue: very tasty Ink fish: very good, don't dog these til you've tried them Gateau basque: very good, unique and overly sweet. Flana (flan): nothing to write home about. Green apple bread pudding: good, but that's it. Sustain. Trailer parking Difficult.

Google
Delicious food and experience! I got the cod made 2 ways. It came with a soup, salad, bread, and sides of fries and rice. Very well cooked! Delicious.

Google
Had the chance to go to Epi's recently for the first time. The food was excellent and the service was on point. The menu had many great choices. The calamari was cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes had the perfect texture. The waiter was quite friendly and attentive. The atmosphere inside was crowded and quite loud. The prices for the main courses seemed high for some of the portions.

A Boise Tradition for Us! Epi's is an absolute gem, and our recent dinner there confirmed--yet again--why it's a must on our annual April trip to Boise. This was our fourth time dining here, and the experience was exceptional from start to finish. We kicked things off with the Croquetas, which are non-negotiable at this point--crispy, creamy, and packed with flavor. The shrimp and rice soup was perfectly spiced and soul-warming. Our entrées came with fried green beans that were so delicious we could've eaten a plate of them alone. I stuck with my favorite, the Sizzling Garlic Shrimp--served in the most incredible butter sauce that's made even better with the warm bread on the table (pro tip: dip everything in it). My husband had the Filet Medallions in a brandy peppercorn sauce, which were just as phenomenal--tender, rich, and full of flavor. We wrapped it all up with their classic Gateau Basque for dessert. Light, not overly sweet, and the perfect ending. Huge thanks to our server, Kaden, who was an absolute superstar each time we've come. Already counting down the days until our next visit. Epi's, you've got our hearts (and our appetites)!

Google
We have been customers for over 20+ years and we have always loved the family component! The service is amazing, and have had Tegan last last 2 times, she is wonderful and on it! Appetizers phenomenal, calamari is outstanding. We found the entrees to be lacking in flavor, the prices to expensive for your portions, we left disappointed. We also saw one of the kitchen staff take a mouth full of food in the kitchen, ugh. Will not be back, sad for us all.

Google
When I found out Boise had such a large basque population I wanted to find authentic food. Based on Epi’s reviews we decided to eat here. It DID NOT disappoint! Dinner was so flavorful and delicious! You get a soup, salad, house vegetable and fries to share. It was just fantastic! I’d highly recommend - but get a reservation to guarantee you can get in! Our server, Riley was awesome!

Brian Garrett

Google
We came here after living here for 6 months and always on the ‘short’ list for dinner. My wife and I both enjoy Basque food and heard this place was the local ‘go to’ place. It did not disappoint! The service was extremely friendly and we had a great bottle of wine with our dinner. A follow on one month later: Came for the lamb shank dinner! OMG was it good and the place was packed! This is a true treasure to have in Meridian- great food and a wonderful staff. I, of course, had the shank and my wife had the lamb chops (equally tasteful) and a wonderful bottle of Spanish red wine. Great way to celebrate life!

Yelp
You simply can't beat quality food and extraordinary service. The welcoming dining area is like being at home and the greeting upon arrival is unequaled. The overall experience is a treat to your dining expectations.

Yelp
Nice quite place. Excellent food and service. Probably the best service that I have ever received.

Yelp
100% 5 Star! My only disappointment is that I have lived here for 2 years and just discovered this awesome restaurant. The restaurant is located right outside of downtown Meridian, Idaho. It's inside an older possibly historic home. Inside is very quaint and super clean and great decor. From the minute you walk in till leaving the service is amazing! like most Basque places there was a unique item accompanying your meal that comes with soup, salad and freshly made bread. For starters we had the ham croquettes so delicious! For dinner I had the rib eye and my wife had the halibut. Both were served with rice and shareable side of hand cut french fries. I can't say enough on how good this food was. My steak was perfectly cooked and had amazing flavors. I snuck a bite of my wife's halibut with a lobster sauce it was also so delicious! This is a must visit place and we will for sure be back!

Yelp
My husband and I absolutely love Epi's! Making reservations is pretty straightforward (you text their number from the website) and we always get quick responses. Their parking lot can fill up fast during peak times, but there's a good amount of street parking too. The service is always quick and friendly! Our favorite appetizer is the Ham Croquets! My husband loves the Beef Tongue here. Beef tongue is a highly underrated ingredient and we encourage you to try this dish if you haven't yet! All in all, Epi's is a wonderful place for a date night or to bring friends and family from out of town.

Yelp
This place is awesome but every time I call for a reservation, they're doing something offsite

Yelp
What a treat!!! If there is only time for ONE MEAL in Boise, Idaho, this is the place!!! Located inside a cute and intimate house. Service was very friendly and attentive. But the best part was the unique and flavorful BASQUE food. No time to travel to Pamplona, Spain? No problem, come to Idaho! I had the hand cut halibut filet. Fresh halibut in a unique "citrus crust" and topped with lobster sauce. Meals come with both soup and salad! I had the shrimp and rice soup, reminded me of a good chowder and had a little spice to it which I loved. Salad had a nice citrus dressing. Meal also came with potatoes and string beans (fresh and also breaded and deep fried). I was stuffed but HAD to have dessert! Ordered the "Gateau Basque" which is a citrus flavored pudding cake. Loved the raspberry sauce they put on it and would ask for extra sauce next time. Can't recommend this gem enough!!!

Yelp
I had a gift certificate for Epi's and wanted to take my wife and mother in law for a Mother's Day dinner. Sadly my gift certificate has expired (I'd completely forgotten about it, my fault). I called and talked to the owner who refused to honor it. Despite it being federal law that gift certificates cannot expire for 5 years, he refused claiming that applies to "gift cards only". This place received $150 for a gift certificate and refuse to honor that money. I get that missing the date is completely on me, but for the owner to refuse is pretty messed up. It's not like I was trying to redeem an expired coupon for a free meal. They received the money for it. Was looking forward to eating here. Too bad I won't be now.

Yelp
Food was great! Service was great! I highly recommend if you are ever in the area stopping by and trying this place out. You won't regret it.

Yelp
Epi's is the true Basque experience! Our family has been going here for family dinners for years! We are 4th generation Basque Idahoans, and we know we will always see other Basque friends and family every time we have dinner there! The food is 5 star, and so is the service! Everything on the menu is absolutely delicious! You can not go wrong, no matter what you choose to dine on, and you will be extremely satisfied with the experience!

Yelp
Such magnificent and delicious food every single time. A Boise area staple. If you're from out of town, put this on your list. If you're a local and haven't been, you're missing out and I feel sorry for you. My husband and I had a fantastic experience at Epi's a couple weeks ago. It had been some time since last visiting here and I was looking forward to returning, with high expectations that were greatly surpassed. We began our dinner with a serving of excellent Ham Croquetas (thickened bechamel with jamon serrano, crumbled and fried golden, $16.00). I probably could have eaten two more plates of these and called it good. We loved them! They were perfectly crunchy and the filling was so creamy. There wasn't too much ham but just enough you still noticed it. You HAVE to get these. Entrees are served with soup, salad, bread and two pre-selected side dishes. Both soups were great! My husband selected a Red Bean (I think?) tomato based soup and I the clam chowder. So much goodies in both, especially in the chowder. The salads were a little sad looking, a few leaves and shredded carrots that I could have done without. At least it was fresh! I ate mine without dressing so at most it was a palate cleanser for me. I chose a lighter fare of Slow Roasted Leg of Lamb (hand carved boneless leg of lamb served with a burgundy sauce, $27.00, $34.00 for a regular portion) with a side of wild rice. It was nothing like I had ever had before. The lamb was tender like butter and the sauce exquisite. The rice was a great side and it paired well with the sauce, too. As much as I liked my dish, the winner of the evening was my husband's, the Halibut Filet (hand cut halibut, citrus crusted, topped with lobster cream sauce, $41.00). Holy cannoli, whatever was in the cream sauce was ADDICTING. I kept swiping bites from my husband's plate when I could. The halibut itself was excellent a hundred times over. It was some of the best food I'd eat in Boise in a long, long time.

Yelp
This is a hard yes all the way around. The setting, the staff, the menu... everything. The croquettes were life altering. The chorizo and the peppers that it came with were perfect. The red bean soup wasnt too special, but it wasnt offensive for a course in the long meal. The salad was so refreshing and impeccably dressed. The halibut is seriously epic, they have clearly mastered the texture of this fish. The porkchop special was nicely done, although for being advertised as pimento yada yada they didnt give much pimento. Nice tight selection, including beverages.

Mary L.

Yelp
Epi's is truly a wonderful restaurant. The food is the best in the valley! I will return to this spectacular spot time & time again! Do yourself a favor & try it if you haven't. Everything on the menu is delicious. Their halibut is a stand out & a favorite in our family. Atmosphere & service always lovely.

Yelp
This is an all time favorite! Maybe because I have been coming here since they have opened or maybe because I'm Basque or both. Since I moved away 11 years ago I always try to dine here on my trips back, just brings so many memories of home. Ok so maybe I'm a bit biased. This place is a family owned icon. It's not trendy and definitely not hip. It is fresh food you would find in any traditional basque meal. I can't ever pass up the ham croquettes. Warm and just yum! Every meal comes with fresh bread, soup of your choice and salad and two sides. The two sides are vegetable rice and french fries. Tip, ask for two sides of rice and skip the fries. The vegetable rice with vegetables and pimentos are so flavorful. Second tip, they serve an amazing lamb shank only on Friday and Saturday the last weekend of the month. If you can go then, it's worth it. We had the roasted leg of lamb and it too was amazing. Great for couple or date night or small parties. Not necessarily kid friendly and I'm totally OK with that. See ya next visit Epis!

Yelp
Very comfortable homey atmosphere. Excellent friendly service. Food was prepared by knowledgeable chef(s).... Definitely not schlock cookery here. Enjoyed it. Memorable. I'll be back.

Yelp
I had long wanted to go to Epi's based on its reputation and so I chose it to celebrate my birthday. Restaurant was full for early seating around 5 pm (reservations are clearly a must) and we were seated upon arrival. Ambience was homey and friendly. Starting with the highlights: + their calamari appetizer was the best that we have eaten in a long time--maybe ever! We both truly enjoyed it! + the mushroom soup was superb! My wife and I would have been very satisfied with a meal consisting solely of that delicious dish! It was simply to die for! + the lamb stew was great! Broth was flavorful, plenty of lamb that was cooked very nicely, and tasty tomatoes. I loved it! + leg of lamb was good and I would give it 4 stars. Meanwhile, my wife liked it better than I did -- whereas I preferred the stewed lamb. Given the forgoing, I would have awarded 5 stars and ended this review. However... - the salad was so-so with romaine lettuce, 1 cherry tomato, and a few carrot slivers. The dressing was rather bland. - the side dishes were roasted green peppers and a rice pilaf with veggies which included green peppers. I was disappointed with the lack of flavor in both sides. Portion sizes were good and we didn't save room for dessert. Service was prompt and personable. Water and bread were refilled efficiently. Perhaps my expectations were too high; after all, Epi's is rated the top restaurant in Meridian. Given the prices charged, I think a 4 star rating is merited based on the overall experience.

John F.

Yelp
Can't understand the enthusiasm OK - quaint elderly restaurant with pretty average food Raves over totally mediocre salad and bread! Understand a family charm for some But are these 'cultural' rose tinted evals? Are seniors bussed in for a treat? Expensive for what it is - is my view

Yelp
Excellent authentic Basque food Good beer and wine selection Great service Charming ambiance

Yelp
First time ever here, and it's such a cute home like ambiance. You walk in, and it feels like you are in your grandmother's house, and it smells so good. Tips for this place call ahead and make a reservation. It's a small place, and you need a reservation. We didn't have one but they were so nice they took us in and we were able to enjoy our meal before the next reservation arrived. Service is friendly and very knowledgeable about the food. My husband had the lamb in a bed of mashed potatoes I had the Fillet Medallions so tender, so juicy the meat was really effortless to chew. The rice was so good, so much flavor. We had croquetas for appetizers so good and soft in the inside. The bread was delicious. The bean soup was very good. I hove no complaints. The chefs did an amazing job presenting the food. We took our dessert to go since the table we were at had a reservation. The dessert was so yummy and sweet I had the flan. My husband had the apple bread pudding. I definitely suggest that you try this place, but don't forget to make a reservation first.

Yelp
It's been six years since my last review, so time to refresh. We've been to Epi's quite a few times in the last six years, although not in 2020, of course. It has always been fantastic, albeit a treat due to the cost. Once the restaurant reopened after the sale and then the extended closure, we had gotten out of the habit of going, but renewed our relationship with them on our anniversary this summer 2021. We got our favorites of course, ham croquettes, ink fish, and so on. It was a great meal and nice service. We love basque food and Epi's always delivers. On this evening, we did discuss how the meal didn't have the same panache that it always has had in the past - there didn't seem as much care put into the preparation. The croquettes were "nice", but didn't have the same ham to potato blend as before. The inkfish was "nice", but didn't have quite the same spicing. Maybe we were comparing the meal with good memories, and we both discussed that, but given we felt the same, we went with "not as much care" as before. Still it was wonderful, though I decided our need for this conversation cost them a star in my mind. Still highly recommended for Basque food.

Yelp
Fantastic dinner! Top notch food and service. Had reservations and we were sat right away! There are a few new "restaurants" popping up locally charging a gratuitous premium for "fancy" mediocre finger food. It's nice to be able to got out for a great dinner and feel like you got what you paid for.

Yelp
Excellent food, ambience, and staff. Reservations are required. The mushroom soup was amazing.

Yelp
Definitely an experience to remember! This place was packed on a Saturday night and we got a table outside. What a treat to try some unique flavors and great quality food. We started with the Ham Croquettes and they are cheesy delicious fried balls of yumminess. The mushroom soup was my favorite thing we ate- a little spicy but so creamy and flavorful. The salad was a little underwhelming, just a light vinaigrette on some lettuce with shredded carrots and one cherry tomato. I chose the meatball and my mom got the sizzling garlic shrimp. The meatballs are... unique. Definitely house made- did not expect the flavor. Very finely ground meat but flavorful. The shrimp was tasty- no leftovers there! A unique must-try restaurant when in Meridian!

Yelp
Great food and friendly staff! Been on my list for more than a decade and finally ate here. Do yourself a favor and go! Wish I'd gone much sooner.

Yelp
You might have driven past this location many times and not even realized it, that's what happened to me! Epi's is a quaint restaurant on Main St and the restaurant is easy to miss as it's exterior is that of a house. This creates a very close knit dining area and adds to the dining experience. All of the tables are relatively close together and there is a family feel to the dinner. This was my first time having basque food and I absolutely loved it. Our server told us that a big part of basque cuisine is garlic, parsley, and salt; all of which I'm a huge fan of! The dinner started off with our choice of soup. The clam chowder was the best clam chowder I've ever had (and I've been to San Francisco). It was that good! They also serve warm bread and butter. Next they bring out their house salad, which is tossed in a delicious vinaigrette of sorts. Following that we got our entrees. I got the ribeye steak in the garlic marinade, while my husband got the lamb chops. I definitely tasted the basque flavor on my steak with the garlic marinade, it was delicious! Each entree comes with two preselected sides. The sides for our meal were homemade French fries and a rice dish almost like paella. This was such a great experience and I would love to come back!
google avatar

Kyle N.

Yelp
This place can do much better! I ordered the beef tongue dish; a couple thin slices of tongue drowned in marinara sauce, served with a soup, a house salad straight out of a bag and French fried, and priced like a steak. Disappointed.

Yelp
This restaurant is really fantastic. I came here with a large group so I got to try numerous options. Starting with the appetizers, the chorizo and mushrooms were solid. The chorizo had an interesting sauce that was unique as far as my dining experiences have been. The portion size for the mushrooms was generous. The calamari was absolutely scrumptious and came with a really good orange dipping sauce. And the croquetas  were out of this world. Regarding entrees, they were out of the ink fish, so I went with the daily special of scallops in some kind of lemon garlic cream sauce. It came with sundries tomatoes, mashed potatoes, sauteed peasant and a choice of red bean or creamy rice soup. The creamy rice soup was like a spicy clam chowder, just delicious. I wasn't overly fond of the red bean soup, but that's not really my type of soup to begin with. The peas were good, and the mashed potatoes were decent too, though I would have preferred something like rice or breakfast potatoes to absorb the sauce from the entree. The scallops and the sauce were divine. Other things I managed to nibble on were lamb legs, which didn't quite do it for me, but the other person loved. Lambchops were great. And though I didn't try it, my friend enjoyed his ox(or was it pork) tongue. I hope to try more options in the future. I heard the halibut is wonderful. For desserts, we got the caramel bread pudding and some cake type thing that had a raspberry sauce on it. Both hit the spot. Great service all around too, though it seemed like they could use another waiter.  We were in no hurry so sitting around and having a slow meal was fine.  Though this place is pricey, if you want to have a full meal and enjoy some amazing food, you won't leave unsatisfied. Great first experience with Basque food for me.

Yelp
Family ran, homemade foods. The best calamari in town! Extremely inviting, wholesome atmosphere. Attentive, kind servers. They entire staff makes you feel like family!

Nicki S.

Yelp
The service was fantastic, prompt and friendly. The restaurant is a little on the loud side which was difficult for an older family member who struggles with hearing in places with a lot of background noise. It is small inside, so I definitely recommend reservations if your group is more than four people. Most of the food was quite good. The croquetas and chorizo on the appetizer list were amazing, as was the red bean soup. I was disappointed in the meatballs I ordered. There just wasn't a lot of flavor to the meatballs and the sauce might as well have been jarred pasta sauce (and it might have been). Another member of our group got the tongue and the tomato sauce for that was far better, so I don't know if it was just an off night to get the meatballs. The side dishes were also a bit disappointing, though as I understand it they did different sides every night so again, maybe I was just there the wrong day. The rest of the dishes in our group were all good. I would probably go back to give it another shot, but at that price point, unless they nailed it next time, I likely wouldn't go back.

Yelp
Just had a beautiful meal at Epi's. Starting with them accommodating to fit my family in between reservations when availability did not seem to be a possibility. This place is filled with family history and much love. Our meal started with soup, I ordered the option of red bean, enjoyed that it was very flavorful. My sister had the cream of mushroom soup and loved it. The salad was perfectly crisp with delicious vinaigrette. We all had the leg of lamb with burgundy sauce. We all agreed how delicious the sauce and cut were. Overall we had an amazing time and appreciated the friendly service. When we come back we will happily eat there again.

Yelp
Definitely recommend calling to make a reservation ahead of time. There is very limited seating so if you just show up you were not likely to get a table. In addition if you make a reservation don't show up early because they will ask you to wait until your reservation time. Restaurant is very cozy and seating is not 6 feet apart. However they do sanitizing between guests and change table cloth linens. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. I think they do an amazing job considering the small space that they're working in. Tonight we ordered Croquettes and the mushrooms for an appetizer. For dinner my husband ordered the meatballs and I ordered the fillet medallions. Each entrée comes with a soup and a salad and a side of rice. Be sure to specify if you have a shellfish allergy so your rice can come with veggies instead of shrimp. For dessert my husband got the flan and I tried to Gateau. My most favorite part of our meal where the croquettes. The legend is true, there is good as what everybody says they are! I really could have made a meal just on those! They really were the highlight and the star of the night. The mushrooms we're good flavorful and had a good sauce. Our salad- it had an amazing vinaigrette house dressing on it that was light and citrusy and very tasty. The proportion was perfect in the amount of salad dressing was perfect. My red bean soup was delicious! The portion size was very generous for a cup of soup. I really enjoyed that. My husband had the clam chowder and he said it was pretty good. The fillet medallions were covered in a flavorful white sauce and this side of rice and vegetables was generous and tasted pretty good. My hubby said the meatballs were excellent. Dessert was pretty good as well the flan had a very nice caramel sauce over it which gave it a very tasty sweet flavor. The Gateau Was pretty dense, almost hard to eat but the raspberry sauce on the plate was excellent. This was our first time here and it was really nice. I would definitely recommend going. However as a sidenote I don't think I would recommend taking small children since there is not a lot of room and it is such a small seating area.

Yelp
Epi's has a great halibut dish! You will need a reservation on most nights - it's a small house located in Downtown Meridian. The staff is super nice and attentive.

Yelp
Great food, awesome service. Hosted a large group of us at the last minute and didn't get flustered at all. If I ever find myself back in the Boise area I'll stop back in.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this places for years... after reading all the reviews and seeing Epi's voted as one of the best restaurants year after year.. Granted I did not order the lamb dish which I guess is their signature dish but the rest of the experience was surprisingly bad.. starting with their "salad" which is 1 Roma tomato and a handful of lettuce and some light dressing... pretty embarrassing to call it even a salad.. the bread I'm almost positive was a walmart baguette with cheap tin foil butter.. I choose to reserve judgement til after the apps and entrees. I remember my wife and I wanting so bad to like it.. it has that mom and pop feel and we so badly wanted to like it.. Unfortunately it was not good. Had the blank in squid as an appetizer, scallops which was decent (7.5 out of 10) and the tongue which was over cooked and generally not good. Was not mad... just sad. Maybe they had a bad night, but for what they charge, the bread, butter and salad are again embarrassing...

Yelp
I have been fortunate enough to have enjoyed a night of dining with this establishment on several important dates in my memory. Graduation, celebration of a new nephew, meeting my then girlfriends parents for the first time over some great meals. I can easily say that even at this point the fact that I've listed so many special events being hosted at the same establishment should already be a glowing recommendation of not just their food, but if the glowing services received. The first time I came to Epi's they sat us on the enclosed patio because the inside was more packed than the Bon Marché used to be on Black Friday. I was grateful for the near immediate service despite the state of business within. How extremely professional that they made every interaction seem normal and without rush despite the actual dinner rush happening all around them. My guests enjoyed their meals but I especially remember that when I ordered the lamb the lovely waiter and waitress came back to let me know they only had half a piece of shank(I believe that was what was said) and it is not enough for the serving. Instead of just offering me an alternative completely they offered to still cook me the lamb that was left and supplement it with a type of roast stew. I was ecstatic to hear that by complete coincidence I would be trying both of the meals I had been warring to choose between! The atmosphere was homey, and calm despite the noises of deep and youthful conversation within. The porch gave us a lovely feeling of being outdoors while staying warm (which incase anyone forgot is usually the use for a patio) and in fact their heating did keep the chill from touching us when we were staying through the late evening. Despite the chaos in the background that I likely only noticed as someone who worked in the food industry and has also been reviewing for some time, you likely never would have known they were running on overheated all cylinders. So very professional, friendly, accurate, it was a splendid showing of how a restaurant should be run. Come by Epi's sometime to celebrate something memorable and make it just that much more.

Yelp
It had been over a decade since I last ate at Epi's, and I am happy to report that not much has changed! Yes, ownership is still in the family and the same cook is at the helm. The croquettas were fantastic and the chorizo was as good as it gets. The rib-eye was cooked to perfection with a healthy serving of potatoes. The halibut was very good with a lemon sauce. We didn't do the squid ink soup but European family members have previously given it rave reviews. The filet medallions were superb and the pork chop was dry tasty. Wine selection was awesome too! Topa! Support our local treasure in downtown Meridian and have a relaxing family dining experience with your loved ones.

Yelp
I've eaten here a few times now... & each time it's felt like eating with extended family. I love the concept of soup & salad before the main entree, & their wines are all superb. And $7 for a glass of quality wine is an extra bonus. Whether planning a romantic dinner or have a group dinner u r planning- this restaurant can meet your expectations. Note: no gluten free options are available without pre arrangement with the chef.

Hmmmmm O.

Yelp
A little house made into a restaurant which is always cute. Food was ok. Party of four but I didn't hear one single mmmm this is sooo good comment. And we each ordered something different for $40 each: Squid, halibut, lamb, and scallops. Cold 8" or so sliced baguette bread for four people was kinda skimpy. Accompanying dinner salads are nothing more than a scoop of iceberg lettuce, teaspoon of shredded carrots, and one little tomato with Italian dressing. . Service was pretty good although they weren't on top of offering more bread or wine; I had to flag them down for that. I'll close with the fact they don't have paella.

Yelp
If you want to get a spot - you need to reserve the restaurant ahead of time to get a spot - I just got lucky because somebody didn't show up. They close also a bit early too and limited seatings. First time coming to Idaho and wanted to try some Basque like restaurants. Their calamari is good, but there wasn't enough crunch to it. The ham croquettas were really good overall and well flavored and had a great crunch to it. The lamb stew: the stew itself was a bit too salty but the meat was really tender. I felt that it was misleading with the soup and salad that they charge that much extra without telling us the price. But overall, it's a good restaurant and the service was great.

Yelp
If you want to try authentic basque food Eli's is your place. I was in town for a wedding and wanted to try this delicious food since I've never seen a Basque restaurant in any state other than Idaho. Who would have thought? The food here was not spicy and full of flavor. We tried the beef meatballs in a delicious orange tomato based sauce. These delectable meatballs tasted differently than your typical Italian fare with different spices and were so tender they almost melt in your mouth. Another winning dish is the cod in lemon-cream sauce. It was baked to perfection with citrus and creamy sauce swimming with super tender pieces of fish. All of Epi's dishes come with soup, salad, and bread. It's like a three course meal for a one course entree price! Go here with your adventurous food loving family and enjoy all the many flavors of Basque food.

Yelp
This is hands down one the best places to eat in the Treasure Valley. I have been going here for about 10 years and it never disappoints. The staff will treat you like family, most of them have been working there for years. I have never had a bad meal. Every time we go, I have the hardest time choosing what to eat. The halibut is my favorite. But the chicken, steak tips, shrimp, and dover sole are also amazing. They are kid friendly and will accomodate your special occasions. I would get reservations just to be safe. Dress up or don't- it won't matter. I recommend Epi's to everyone new to town or visiting and it's the one place I always bring my family and friends from out of town. If you are looking for a pretentious, snooty, overpriced meal to impress your friends- it may not be for you. This place is what Idaho is truly about. Good food and great service. Keep up the good work!

Yelp
The mushroom soup was delicious. The lamb did not taste at all like lamb; more like beef. So disappointing.

Yelp
This place is Ahhhmazing!! It was a very enjoyable experienc. I could say that I died and went to heaven. from the crouquettes appetizers, to the clam chowder soup and bread, to Epis house salad and then the shrimp entree and the White wine. And we topped it off with the Green Apple bread pudding that was to die for. Epi's is my new favorite place to go. Thank you Epi for leaving such an amazing legacy of your delicious food! Thank you! Yelp
Best Basque foods in Idaho. Love love their squid black ink dish. Taste just like in the Basque Country (bermeo)

Yelp
Food is really good on the border of excellence. Portion size is a bit small but I love supporting a local company.
