Angel Hair Pasta Is Back and Delicious As Ever | Eater

"This Honolulu pop-up plates angel hair with Dungeness crab, salted lemon and kani-miso breadcrumbs; the chef explains that angel hair was chosen over fresh or thicker dried pastas because it releases starch to thicken delicate sauces and resembles Vietnamese vermicelli, making it ideal for Italian-Asian pairings and a popular menu item." - Jaya Saxena

In Chinatown, chefs Bao Tran and Jake Saito weave Italian technique with pan‑Asian flavors—prosciutto with a sesame donut, vibrant crudi, and deftly sauced pastas. Covered by Honolulu Magazine when it moved from pop‑up to permanent space; OpenTable shows steady demand.

Overall, very solid food!!! Super delicious and unique flavor combinations. My friends and I went for dinner here and split a few dishes. I LOVED the Hokkaido milk rolls with black garlic butter! So good! But it seems kinda sad that my favorite dish was some bread with butter (albeit perhaps some of the best bread & butter I’ve had). Hence I couldn’t give this place 5 stars. We also got the Ahi Carpaccio, Gnocchi Mapolonese, and Dan Mien. While these dishes were well-executed and were a fun twist on familiar dishes/flavors, they were a bit forgettable. They weren’t bad or anything, just not so amazing that I need to come back if that makes sense. Especially since it was not cheap. However, definitely worth a try!

I first tried their Asian-Italian fusion at a pop-up before they had a brick-and-mortar, and the pasta completely blew me away—unlike anything I’d ever tasted. Back then, my schedule and time on the island kept me from making it to their other pop-up events, which I always regretted. So finding out they opened a full restaurant felt like a win. Now I can go anytime—and somehow, the pasta is even better than I remembered. I’ve brought foodie friends here, and every single one of them was floored. This place is easily one of my favorite spots on the island. It’s creative, bold, and ridiculously good. Scallop Carpaccio - Amazing. Dan Mien - Amazing. Gnocchi Mabolognese - Amazing. Mushroom Donburi - Good.

Portions were extremely small for the price. We had 4 dishes for the 2 of us and still left hungry. The food was fantastic. Great variety of italian dishes with local influences. The service was equally as good. Very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable staff. The atmosphere was great, especially outside in the courtyard. Just wish they were at least normal sized portions.

My husband and I came in for dinner while staying in downtown Honolulu. It was sort of tucked away just behind a very busy, energetic restaurant on the corner, making it kinda easy to miss. But we’re glad we didn’t. The space was beautifully decorated and offered both indoor and outdoor seating. Service was wonderful. And the food was amazing. We tried the hoikkado milk buns, fritto misto (tempura vegetables with aioli), the Vietnamese inspired Amatriciana pasta, and the carrot cake. The carrot cake wasn’t our personal favorite, but everything else was truly delicious. And my husband said his mocktail (Coastal Brake) was the best he’s ever had anywhere. We’re pleased to have given them a shot rather than just following the crowds.

I can’t believe I haven’t heard of this restaurant before tonight. Every dish I had was fun and a truly a *delight* to eat. I recommended the scallop crudo & prosciutto san daniele - both insane starters and so unique. I’ve never loved scallops so much! Then had the capellini granchio & tagliatelle arrabbiata pastas. Incredible, dynamic creative flavors. In addition, love the restaurant ambiance and lighting - clearly very well designed. Telling all my friends to come here!! This is exactly the fine dining restaurant we needed in Honolulu.

This is a newly opened restaurant. It's located next to Fete, a well-known restaurant in downtown. It has indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is the same area used by The Daley during the day. Although it's an Italian restaurant, they have Japanese-inspired dishes like Kakuni and Donburi, as well as flavors reminiscent of Vietnamese cuisine. So, it's more accurate to call it Asian fusion Italian. The plate of Vietnamese donuts and prosciutto was exceptionally delicious, and I plan to order it again next time. The pasta and Kakuni had Vietnamese-like flavors, but they were very tasty. This place is definitely worth revisiting! Highly recommended!

We really enjoyed our date night here. The shareable sized dishes allowed us to try many great things. The scallop carpaccio and cappellini granchio (not pictured) were our favorites.

Google
The food & the vibe were great! An awesome choice for a date night. I especially enjoyed the foie gras. The service was on the slower side. We waited for quite a long time to get served both warm dishes. It’s definitely not a place to come if you want a quick dining, but the pace is actually good for good conversation because we don’t get rushed. The price seemed to be set right for their quality and quantity. I’d recommend this restaurant to anyone who are looking for a nice casual restaurant.

Yelp
Came here on a date night and was really excited! We heard about Giovedi on Instagram reels. ***What we ordered ~ **Non-alcoholic spritz (10/10) ~ I think it was called the skyliner spritz? I wasn't entirely sure, but it was VERY good. Super refreshing and sweet. A great option for those who don't drink alcohol. **Scallop carpaccio (6/10) ~ I wasn't a huge fan of this. The scallop is very thin and the deep fried banana leaves/onions on top was a bit overwhelming. This dish kind of reminds me of banh beo! **Butter Rolls with Butter (10/10) ~ I was a little hesitant to get this because I was like, it's just bread and butter. WRONG. The bread was so creamy, milky, and fluffy! The butter was also SUPER delicious. It goes so well with the rolls! You should defs get this if you are coming. **Ragu Gnocchi (10/10) ~ This is by far one of the best Ragu Gnocchi I've ever had. I normally don't like Ragu and gnocchi, but this was delicious. The Ragu has a small kick to it and the gnocchi was nice and soft!! This is a must get. **Veal milanese (8/10) ~ The Veal Milanese was light and delicious. I personally like light dishes like this, so I thought it really good! Although the breading was a little soggy and the spare rib thing on the bone that's deep fried was dry. But not bad overall. **Tiramisu (8/10) ~ Soft, delicious, and a little sweet. This Tiramisu was rum heavy (which I wasn't a fan of because you can taste the alcohol). But good! If you pair this with a nice cup of coffee it would go so well together. Overall, I wouldn't mind coming back! The customer service is great, food came out fast, and it's a vibe!

Yelp
i wanted to like this place, but the food was just okay. the pasta's which i think they are known for all fell flat and quite pricey for the portion size. the beef cheek was great, but the gnocchi was way too soft (disintegrated trying to lift it with my fork). highlight was the tiramisu & milk bread butter. other than that it was not worth it. our server was pretty pretentious, but didn't seem to know the menu very well. we only asked a couple of questions, but gave us answers (that's just how chef likes to make it) There was a lady server who was super friendly and was very helpful. maybe if we had her it would've been a better experience (only service wise). we were a party of 4 and asked to to sit inside (because there was a table), but they said it was reserved for reservations coming in later (but we had a reservation??? are we not special enough???) we were sitting outside and it was pretty hot and humid. when we left the table inside was still not sat!!! also, it seemed they were sharing bathrooms with other restaurants. the other guests were just standing next to us having a conversation for 15min. it was kind of weird. i would've gave 1 star, but because of the lady server (there's hope)

Yelp
If I could give 3.5 that would be my true rating. First of all, service is great. Server was attentive and went out of his way to get me some hot water. What was amazing is the appetizers. We got the scallops and the prosciutto with a donut puff. The scallops were fresh and the brown butter bites made it taste amazing. The pastas were not good. I'd say the gnocchi mapo was be very tasty and the gnocchi was so soft. However, they gave two tiny pieces of meat. So disappointing and the size was not enough for one serving, more like an appetizer. The server described the crab pasta full with crab but it had absolutely crumbs and 2 tiny pieces. The crab pasta did not taste like crab. It was a butter lemon pasta for $37. Sooo much lemon and butter it was too rich. The table next to us got it first and I thought, I hope it's not the crab pasta cause it didn't look like it. They also did not finish it. It's too buttery. The price for the pastas were not worth it. So disappointed. It's sad that the appetizers were better than the entrees and had more protein. Not sure if I am coming back, but if I do, I will not order the pasta.

Yelp
Quick summary if you don't want to read more. Very very small portion sizes and overall decent flavors. Had the Hokkaido milk bread which was nothing special and they didn't give enough butter. The scallop crudo had a nice taste but the fried shallots did over power the scallops. The dan mien noodle texture was good but the flavor was only a slight richer tomato sauce. The best dish was the mushroom donburi. Very rich flavor, nice touch with the pine nuts, and good contrasting textures. Split those dishes between 2 people and I am still starving.

Yelp
Excellent service! Greeted as soon as we walked in & bright to our table. Once seated we had the sweetest and kindest waitress. She was attentive and very focused on serving all her tables. Ambiance was hip and modern vibe with nice comfortable lighting. The food was sooooo delish and flavors were robust. We started with the capellina grancio which was creamy, crunchy and tasty, the grilled kampachi was cooked to perfection and flavors & the fresh dill was so yummy! Next, the mushroom donburi had perfect texture of crunchy, mushroom umami, Wow these dishes did not disappoint! The chef was spot on with his sauces and fresh ingredients ! Will be back very soon!

Yelp
Excellent service, our favorite was the wagyu so tender like biting into marrow. The tempura style veggies and the Hokkaido rolls were good. The mushroom dish was topped with a cool crispy rice like ingredient. The lobster was good but the spaghetti under it was cooked perfectly but had an unusual smell and was not spicy. Menu really not geared for kiddies. Only buttered pasta. Wish they offered gelato at least but Only 2 desserts on menu. We didn't care much for the carrot cake. The tiramisu was better. The kiddies left hungry as menu is geared for adults. There were 3 females servicing our table, the main server, one that brought the food and one that cleared the plates. When it started to rain they had an awning that moved over our heads. The server was on it and came around to wipe the drops off our table and replace the paper napkins.

Yelp
Giovedi's is an absolute gem. Every dish we tried was full of flavor, beautifully plated, and clearly made with care. We started with the scallop crudo, mind blown! What a great combination of flavors. I don't eat raw fish as much anymore but this definitely made me miss it! We also got the torchan and salad to share , but we're great choices! The salad was huge! The torchan was good too but our bread was burnt but I would still get it next time!! My bf got the crab pasta which he said he really enjoyed! He found quite a few huge pieces of crab, so he was very happy! I got the mushroom donburi, which I wouldn't typically try, since I usually like more filling things, but it was actually my favorite dish! Despite the small looking size, this really was the final blow to a great night! The mixture of the black rice and pine nut crunch was so good! Unfortunately, I didn't get a pictures of the drinks we ordered! My bf enjoyed both of the drinks he got and I liked the sprite i ordered haha !But our bartender, Don, did an amazing job with helping us decide what to get that night! He was very attentive and gave us a great experience! Highly recommend Giovedi's if you're looking for great food, good drinks, and top-tier hospitality. We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Getting better all the time! This unique gem in Chinatown is an incredibly creative Asian-Italian fusion with an incredible staff and warm atmosphere. Do ask about the specials because they are just that Special! This time we dined alfresco in the courtyard out back which was delightful. The delicious food is complimented with creative mixology of mock and cocktails. Must try, unique!

Yelp
Pros: cute atmosphere, good service, and Hokkaido milk rolls. Cons: Small portions with underwhelming flavor. Grilled Kamalani tasted like gas from the torch they probably used to crisp the skin. Dungeness crab pasta had a subtle flavor. Vietnamese pasta didn't taste at all like there was a Vietnamese influence except for the egg noodles. Nothing really stood out to me flavor wise. And not to mention the prices didn't help. They claim that their dishes are best shared family style...However, one pasta is maybe enough for one person. I don't mind smaller portions but to say "family style" is misleading. I expect something family style to at least be able to be shared amongst 4 people. Came for a friend's birthday and was bummed the meal wasn't what we were anticipating. Probably won't be back :(

Yelp
Wow, where do I begin? Food, ambiance, service all 10/10. This Italian Asian fusion restaurant is located in Downtown Honolulu. If you're from here you know packing in this area is rough. If you're lucky you can find a meter parking but if not there's a few paid lots in the surrounding blocks. We made a reservation on Open Table for 5:45 pm and were seated immediately. To start, we got the Hokkaido milk rolls and onion dip plus the prosciutto San Daniele per the suggestion of our server. The milk rolls were soft and the garlic butter was the perfect complement. The onion dip was served cold with shrimp chips which was yummy. And we were so glad we ordered the prosciutto because it was the star of the appetizers. You stuff the bread with the prosciutto along with the pickles & it made for the perfect bite. The brine of the pickles cut through the fat of the meat and was excellent. As for the mains, we ordered the dan mien Vietnam-atriciana, capellini granchio, gnocchi mabolognese and char siu pork. Everything was excellent but my favorite had to be the gnocchi. The beef cheek ragu literally melted in your mouth. I would come back just for that dish alone. We ended with the tiramisu and that was the perfect cherry on top to a delicious meal. With a bottle of wine plus tip, everything came out to around $350 and was enough to feed our group of 4 comfortably. Definitely a splurge but well worth it for a date night or dinner with friends.

Yelp
This place delivers. They took over Encore in 2024 and I had the pleasure of trying their menu when they first opened. Everything is exceptional, including their wine selection. China town has such a hip restaurant scene and this place is just what was needed. We had their Washgyu, milk rolls, carpaccio and have tried a selection of their wines. I've been back several times, and brought friends, because it's been such a fun time. 10/10. Can't wait to come back again

Yelp
To celebrate our wedding anniversary, my husband and I came to Giovedi for a nice dinner. We had never been there, but something about an "Italian" restaurant in Chinatown peaked our interest. Appetizers: We ordered the onion dip and foie gras. I expected the foie gras to be good when you're paying $34, however, the onion dip was so flavorful and was super well paired up with the shrimp chips. I wanted to learn how to make the dip so I can always enjoy it. Entrees: Grilled Kampachi Vadouvan and Dan Mien Vietnam Atriciana. The fish was so tender and the skin was crispy. Love the beurre blanc sauce and I even ate all the dill on top. Everything paired well with the fish. The egg noodles dish was so intriguing.. I mean, it was clearly an Italian pasta but the Asian flavored would kick in. I thought it was the Chinese Zhajiang Mian (noodles) dressed up as an Italian pasta dish. I loved it. Dessert: Carrot cake. It was NOT TOO SWEET! This is the best compliment, I feel, you can give to a dessert. It was not the typical American carrot cake, a little more dense on the cake part but worked. The frosting was right and nothing screamed STRONG SPICED. The ginger gelato was perfect, again, not spicy (come on it's ice cream, I don't want to feel the spiciness in a dessert) and if they sold it in a pint or quart size, I'd buy it and enjoy at home. I also want to give compliments to the waitress, Elsie, she was professional and a delight. She gave us thorough feedback on each dish and drinks my husband ordered. We will be back. Please, give this local business some support by having a meal or drink there.

Yelp
Came here for the first time in April 2025 for my birthday. My apologies for forgetting the name of some items. Here's a super quick breakdown of it all. Food - 4/5 - flavor 5/5 - food temperature 3.5/5 - texture 5/5 - time it took to get to our table 3.5/5 - portion size (kind of small) 3.5/5 - cost Drinks - 5.5 - flavor/cocktails, strength, temperature 4.5/5 - beer temperature (according to husband) 4.5/5 - time it took to get to our table 4.5/5 - cost Dessert 2/5 - 5 spice carrot cake was pretty dry, and the 5 spice and ginger flavor over powdered the carrot flavor. Maybe that was the goal but it wasn't for me Menu is short and sweet Ambiance n such ... Ambiance was nice with soft lighting indoors, we sat inside by the bar along the wall. One thing I'd consider changing is the super uncomfortable wire high seating along the wall, I feel like it was the same uncomfortable seats from the previous Encore Saloon restaurant. After sitting in those chairs in short skirts/ shorts you have the ugly imprint on the back of your legs. I didn't want to be seen walking around after that. Would return to try other items. This time in PANTS in case we end up sitting in those wire seats lol.

Yelp
We celebrated our friend's birthday last night at Giovedi and had the most fabulous dinner! We tried almost the entire menu and thoroughly enjoyed each dish. The steak, char siu, and pastas were my favorite. They've also got an awesome wine list and delicious cocktails. The service was decent for us being such a large party but drinks took a little while to come out. We sat outside on their patio that has a wonderful ambiance with their bistro lighting. We previously tried their pop up in Restaurant Row and are happy to see them find their permanent home in the old Encore Saloon space.

Yelp
Came here for a round of drinks while waiting for our table at Fete. The cocktails were phenomenal. I really enjoyed my Peacock Tail (a tequila sour). We got a little hungry so we also ordered their crudo appetizer. Everyone in the group said it was the best crudo they had ever tasted. I can't wait to come back and try more!

Yelp
Ever had Vietnamese donuts with your prosciutto? Giovedì in Chinatown is flipping the script on Italian cuisine--with bold Asian flavors in every bite. From Gnocchi Mabolognese (yes, that's doubanjiang in the beef cheek ragù) to natural wines and patio vibes, this spot is a must for anyone who loves fusion done right. Located in the heart of Honolulu's historic Chinatown, Giovedì is redefining date night and foodie adventures, one handmade dish at a time. The food is awesome, the Vibe and atmosphere is chill and hip... Our server was very nice add attentive. However the only negatives are our drinks took forever... we arrived early so we sat at the bar and ordered a Mocktail and a beer... it took over 10-15 for the beer... and it was in a bottle not even draft... then when the rest of our party arrived, we ordered drinks and it took forever, where we thought they forgot... but I think it was whoever was working the bar or they could of been short staffed cause it wasn't that busy.. and secondly , the food portions are a little on the smaller side for the price, but all in all, we had a great time! And that what you go out for. So I'll let you be the judge when you go and let me know how you liked it.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised on how great the food, service and atmosphere was. From the moment we walked in, everyone was very inviting. We had reservations at 5:30 pm and were seated promptly in the left back corner. Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful with the menu. We started off with some cocktails. If you like Calpico, like my boyfriend then the Sun Chong Spritz cocktail is for you!! Slight sweetness and a very refreshing taste. If you like a little sweeter cocktail with a fruity flavor, then the Chromakey dreamcoat is the cocktail for you. Then, we began our appetizer portion and that's we were blown away by the flavors!!! We had the Nairagi Crudo, Scallop Carpaccio, Prosciutto San Daniele. As each appetizer came out we were so surprised with the flavors and couldn't wait for the next dish to come out. Everything was nice and light and wasn't overpowered by the other flavors in each dish. Next came our entrees, we had the Capellini Granchio, Char Siu pork and an order of the Hokkaido bread which we used to mop up all the saucy goodness from both dishes. We really enjoyed the pasta dish, and had commented on the type of pasta that was used. We both agreed if a different pasta was used it would make the dish really heavy, but the use of angel hair pasta was perfect!!! The showstopper for us was the Char Siu pork. It was perfectly cooked and was accompanied by red wine plums. Make sure if you have this dish, eat each piece of pork with a slice of plum then take a piece of soft Hokkaido bread to mop up the sauce. Lastly, we finished our feast with the Five-spice carrot cake which was pretty tasty. But we enjoyed the ginger gelato more than the cake itself. It had a very light taste, that helped to cleanse the palate. We really enjoyed Glovedi and will definitely be back to try the other dishes!!!

Yelp
Wow I must really like this place because I went twice in one week! Sunday night : Perfect pretheater venue with great drinks and food! We were able to walk in and sit at the bar which allowed us to see the food being beautifully plated and the prosciutto being sliced. You can also sit at high or low tops for 2 or in the courtyard in back. I got the Sun Chong Spritz because it was highlighted on the menu. It was pretty good but I preferred my friend 's 84 Pontiac Dream. Our other friend got a glass of wine. We all shared a plate of Prosciutto San Daniele which was just the right appetizer for us. Our savvy server suggested we add on another Vietnamese sesame donut since there were 3 of us and only 2 donuts per order. They were kinda like gindui but not sticky or oily. You cut open the top and put in the thinly sliced prosciutto and giardiniera to make a delightful little sandwich. Friday night : Since I enjoyed the vibe and wanted to try more of the food I returned a few days later. We were lucky to get a table without reservations. DRINK : Many of the cocktails intrigued me but I decided to go with the SETEC Astronomy "a curious boozy fusion" root beer drink even though our server described it as "interesting". It was unique in a good way. Mixed with all the other flavors, the root beer wasn't so recognizable. Loved the very thinly sliced lemon peel garnish and the beautiful glass it was serve in. FOOD; *** The Green Salad was a beautiful mixture of of butter lettuce, romaine, endives and some watercress, topped with thinly sliced hearts of palm, parmigiano reggiano, and crumbled croutons (so you get the flavor of toast without the rough texture of huge croutons which can sometimes cut your palate) it was dressed with just the right amount of vinegrette which allowed the natural sweetness of the lettuce to shine through. Chef's kiss! Simple but excellent. This may have been one of the best green salads I've had! ***The Gnocchi mabolognese was also a winner with its soft pillowy flour (not potato) pasta, tender Wagyu beef cheek ragu with a dollop of whipped tofu, perfect for lactose intolerants. A wonderful combination of flavors and textures. The Scallop Crudo appetizer consisted of very thin slices of scallops topped with brown butter crumbles, crispy leeks and bits of fresh orange that brightened it. I liked the flavors of the condiments but if you are hungry I recommend getting something more substantial. Grazie to our knowledgeable and attentive server Jordan and Giovedi for another lovely evening on Hotel St.

Yelp
First time trying this place on Sunday night. What we really enjoyed was as follows: PROSCIUTTO SAN DANIELE vietnamese sesamo donuts, giardiniera pickles ONION DIP onion five ways, warm shrimp chips We would pass SCALLOP CRUDO, due to hokkaido scallop wasn't prepared as we expected and we felt too much toppings.
google avatar

Yelp
Our server Tony was down-to-earth and knowledgeable! He also gave us rosé for our anniversary! EVERY dish was delectable. We ordered salted Hokkaido milk rolls, which I enjoyed with the black garlic butter. I also could not stop eating the onion dip with the shrimp chips (I wish they offered more of the dip and chips!). We also tried the dan mien Vietnam-Articiana, which was my favorite of the pastas we tried (the other being the capellini granchio, which had a nice crunch to it, but I just love red sauces more). We finished with the char siu pork, which my partner enjoyed. I can't wait to return to try other items!!!

Yelp
Go now to Giovedi! Oh man... so glad we chose to go here, it was a fantastic meal. We were seated at the bar, closest to the kitchen so we got to see the dishes come out and get finished off by the Chef. The Hokkaido milk rolls with black garlic was soooo good. The color of the butter is a little off putting because of the black garlic but one bite and you will forget about the color! I also loved the mushroom rice. It had cripsy rice bits on top, which made the texture really good. The clam pasta is good but very seafoody tasting due to the XO sauce. It was a little too much for me but my boyfriend really loved it. We parked in the underground municipal lot, which isn't far away and rates are reasonable.

Yelp
Aloha, our first time to this new location, prior only visited pre fixe pop-up at restaurant row. Pleasantly happy at delicious dishes chef does with a permanent kitchen, nice. I like the use of Thai and Asian spices in the dishes as well as European flavors from caviar in an onion dip on shrimp chips to lemon grass in clams, all so ono. And yes there is still Italian pasta to be had, nice. We had 4 of us which worked well to get a good variety as great for sharing dishes. So bring a date or meet friends, Enjoy!

Yelp
Came here with a friend to catch up and celebrate the end of a rough work week and my birthday. We parked in one of the Chinatown Municipal lots one street over and walked over to the restaurant. We made reservations in advance and got seated immediately upon check-in. Our Server and the staff were friendly and amazing. They had great recommendations for both food and drinks. I got the Mango Vodka & my friend got the Strawbroni - Both were excellent! For the Mango Vodka, they partnered with Sun Chong for their Mangoes! (Love supporting local!) For our food, we decided on the Ahi Carpaccio, Mushroom Donburi, Capellini Granchio, and finished off with the 5-Spice Carrot Cake. Everything was delicious and prepared meticulously for a beautiful presentation. There were other dishes we wanted to try but couldn't because we were so full. The Italian-Asian fusion is evident in each bite of food. The Ahi Carpaccio had hints of mild spice balanced with the tartness of the shiso - So good! The Mushroom Donburi had puffy rice which gave the dish amazing texture and the hint of roasted pine nuts balanced the mushroom flavor beautifully (my fave dish of the night). The Capellini Granchio was not too heavy and there were lumps of crab meat intertwined throughout the noodles! The carrot cake is served with a side of Ginger Gelato which was refreshing and balanced out the cake wonderfully. They served this dish with a candle to recognize our birthday celebration (such a sweet touch!) We will definitely come back to try other drinks and dishes in the future! The ambiance is calm and friendly - Perfect vibes to end a crazy work week or busy day!

Yelp
We had such a great time at Giovedi. Tony was a delight and suggested such a great meal for us. We started with the 5-ways Onion Dip with Warmed Shrimp Chips. We added on the Kaluga Caviar which gave it an extra umami hit. Not needed tho, as the onion dip itself had a complexity and depth of flavor. Then we had the Scallops Crudo. The orange gave the dish a nice citrus lift and the pistachio a creamy earthiness that was very nice. The standout of the night was the Spaghetti Vongole with XO sauce. This is one of those dishes that at first bite you know it's special. Tons of umami and XO-ness. OMG delicious. Our main was the Char Siu Pork Chop. It was perfectly cooked and the rehydrated plum was reminiscent of hoisin sauce. A classic combo. We finished with the 5-Spice Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting. I'm not a dessert person, but this was delightful.

Yelp
The BTS concert trio (world food tour duo plus one) dined at Giovedi on Hotel St. prior to seeing Ronny Chieng at Hawaii Theater. We were seated out in the patio area under a large white awning to shield us from the intermittent showers. I ordered a 2015 Barolo Bussia Riserva "Cascina Dardi" from Alessandro Fantino. I've come to appreciate Italian wines and this Barolo, although lightish in coloration, offered a lot of fruit, spice and earthiness and opened up during the evening. We had to order the Hokkaido Milk Rolls ... Four warm and luscious rolls served with black garlic butter; the Mango Panzanella (special), the Onion Dip with sesame chips in place of the shrimp chips (shellfish allergy), Mushroom Donburi, Dan Mien Vietnam Atriciana, Foie Gras Torchon, and the Washugyu Flat Iron Steak. The mango appetizer came with a round of fresh mozzarella and croutons ... the fruit was sweet and complimented the cheese ... A sweet and savory winner! The onion dip was prepared similar to hummus ... The chips were fine, but I would have preferred some toast points or pita bread. The Foie Gras Torchon came with a (sort of) quenelle of caramelized onions and pieces of olive oil toast. This bread would be great with the onion dip. The Dan Mien was egg noodles from Yat Tung Chow on King St. with lap xuong (lup cheong to us locals), Pecorino Romano and pickled peppers ... We should have ordered two plates as we scarfed up the noodles quickly. The mushroom donburi was a combination of Nanatsuboshi white rice and Venere black rice, sliced mushrooms, dressed with cilantro pesto, pine nuts and shavings of Pecorino Romano cheese. I didn't care for this dish, but my tablemates loved it. The Washugyu flat iron steak was served sliced with a broccoli salsa verde, slivers of crispy garlic and a mustard sauce. The steak came medium rare and was tender and flavorful. Our server dropped off a dish of Gnocchi Mapolonese ... This was a wonderful dish .... Large gnocchi with a beef check ragu, topped with a dollop of whipped tofu. We ended our meal by sharing Mrs. Tran's Tiramisu. It was the classic tiramisu ... One bite was enough for me. The world food tour duo loves the food at Giovedi ... the menu is inventive, the wine list offers something for almost anyone and the prices are reasonable in today's environment. Plus, the owners are such nice people. Recommended!

Yelp
Note: Sorry no pics. Device free dining with friends. Every now and then a fusion eatery makes a splash with bold new creation. They shine for a while and just as quickly as they appeared, poof, gone. Chinese pizza, Japanese hotdogs, Korean burritos. Now Vietnamese / Italian. Intro aside, this is a fun fusion. Strong flavors, umami supercharging and the unique effect when you'd say "that taste strange" is dismissed as "experimentation". For starters, the scallop Carpaccio shines. Earthiness of the crushed pistachio nuts plays up the nuttiness of the browned butter that in turn make the sweet oceanic taste of the scallop shine all tempered with a burst of citrus. Do not pass on the Hokkaido milk rolls. Pillowy soft with a good balance of sweet and savory. The black garlic (not to be confused with burnt garlic) butter, adding another dimension. For pasta, the "Dan Mien Vietnam-Atriciana", their take on the classic Roman amatriciana, replaces the guanciale with lap xuong sausage and Italian pasta with egg noodles packs a flavor punch. Sweet, rich, cheesy, who doesn't like that? All is not perfect. The grilled kampachi is presented beautifully with perfectly crisped skin but the fish itself, overcooked and slightly dry. The "Char Siu Pork" featuring a kurobuta rib chop, while perfectly cooked, lacked the expected roasted meat, burnt maltose and umami notes of fermented tofu that you crave from freshly made char siu. Small but well chosen Italian focused wine list. Good selection of spirits including a nice selection of amaro to close the meal. Bohemian chic decor. Friendly, competent service. A fun dining experience that is best suited for good spirited foodies who love to make comments at the table as they sample this and that. LOL! Enjoy Gioivedi while you can because fusion eateries come and go like the blink of an eye and none has stood the test of time.

Yelp
Oh man, we were excited to come to Giovedi but our experience was unfortunately subpar. We made a reservation well before our trip to Hawaii and were looking forward to this meal the entire time. We arrived for our dinner reservation, but our table wasn't ready yet. Instead, we were instructed to wait outside on the street while other parties were allowed to wait inside the restaurant, and some were even seated immediately. Approximately 15 minutes after our reservation time, we were brought to our table, which was outside and the farthest table in the back, barely covered by the awning. It was raining that night, and our table and chairs weren't fully covered by the awning. That's fine, we understand Giovedi doesn't control the weather, but our hostess just walked away after seeing that our table and chairs were blatantly being rained on. We ended up having to move our table and chairs ourselves and asked other guests if they could scoot over to make room. We also noticed several other open tables much more fully covered, but we weren't offered the option to move. After placing our order, our first two items came insanely quickly - like within 3-5 minutes. We were taken aback by how quickly the food arrived and even started adjusting our post-dinner plans, thinking the meal would wrap up a lot faster than expected. Then, we proceeded to sit there and wait for a full 45 minutes for our other 2 dishes. It was extremely confusing and a terribly paced meal and dining experience. In terms of food itself, everything was fine but deeply overpriced. We got the scallop crudo and crab capellini, which came super quickly. Both were fine but small portioned. The kanpachi was cooked well but was literally sitting in a bed of its own fish juices with pickled gai choy that tastes like the gai choy you get out of a bag. The mushroom donburi had 10x more rice than mushroom and felt heavy yet unsatisfying. We also tried a few cocktails, all of which were very sweet and not strong. Our waiter was kind enough and brought us a few complimentary drinks to apologize for the wait. We ultimately spent $200 and ended up eating a second dinner. Also, because we were seated outside, we had to dodge a cockroach that was running around while we were eating.

Yelp
Lovely ambience but a little loud. Sat outdoors under the awning. Onion dip, gnocchi and mushroom donburi were delicious! Prosciutto appetizer was good. Had carrot cake but was not my favorite. Tasted like dry fruit cake. But the gelato was delicious!!! Excellent service.

Yelp
TL;DR Awesome Italian/Asian fusion cuisine in the heart of Downtown. Hokkaido Milk Rolls = ONO Hokkaido Scallop Crudo = ONO Capellini Granchio = ONO Grilled Kampachi = ONO Washugyu Flat Iron Steak = ONO ----- Unfortunately, I was never able to check out the Giovedi pop-up, so I was extremely happy to hear they opened a permanent location conveniently located in downtown Honolulu. I was able to secure a Saturday evening reservation for my wife and I on the Resy app. We parked at Mark's Garage, which is one block away. My wife and I came thirsty so we immediately ordered a couple round of cocktails. All the drinks were fantastic. For appetizers, we started with the Hokkaido Milk Rolls and Scallop Crudo. I would certainly order both again, but the milk rolls in particular were divine. They were fluffy, warm, and buttery on the inside with a salty and crisp crust. Plus the accompanying black garlic butter was delish. For our carb selections we went with the capellini and the gnocchi. The capellini was light but creamy, full of texture, and wonderfully flavored. I loved this dish. The gnocchi was also superb; it was clearly inspired by one of my favorite Chinese dishes, mapo tofu. Finally, for our protein dishes we chose the kampachi and the flat iron steak. Both were fantastic. The body of the fish was flaky and delicate, while the skin was salty and crunchy. Awesome contrast. Plus the tare was perfectly umami. The steak was cooked perfectly and again was inspired by Chinese cuisine with the obvious nod to good old beef and broccoli. I would absolutely order both these dishes again. We finished with the tiramisu, which was bomb and the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. I can't wait to go back to try the other dishes we didn't have the opportunity to order this time around. I am excited to see what Giovedi does in the future!

Yelp
"Italian-ish restaurant celebrating Asian flavors," is honestly the best way to describe this place. It's a total vibe on Hotel Street! When entering the establishment, there's a huge bar with the kitchen on the right hand side, a few high tops on the left, leading to the back of their restaurant that has an outdoor area that can accommodate larger parties. I gotta say, Anthony is THE most hospitable person that I've ever met, literally makes you want to dine and try out the entire menu. Also shout out to Kyle, I see you busting your butt, garnishing, making pastries and running in the back to help the kitchen when they're behind on orders. The Hokkaido Milk Rolls with/Black Garlic Butter really fill you up, and it's hard not to eat just one, when it's house-made fresh daily, slathered in that garlic butter. The Prosciutto San Daniele was very interesting! The sesame Vietnamese donuts are yummy! And the pickles cut the saltiness of the prosciutto. Though the cuts of prosciutto were huge, so we ate it deconstructed for the most part, which probably defeated the purpose of the dish's blend of flavors. The Onion Dip, my absolute fave! I can definitely appreciate a crisp shrimp chip. By the time we got to the mains, we were already stuffed but we continued to push through. The Grilled Kampachi had a perfectly crisp skin and the flavors in the tare sauce were yummy! The Capellini (skinny noodles, not my personal fave type of noodle) were prepared well, so that they weren't overcooked, tossed in a light lemony sauce. But you know we had to leave room for Mrs. Tran's Tiramisu, made with Amaro Nonino. Light, fluffy and left me wanting more, like a whole slab more! We will definitely be back to try all the items that we couldn't the first go-around!

Yelp
Such a fun spot with great drinks and amazing food. We first got a chance to taste the amazing dishes at the secret pop-up in Restaurant Row. Now they've put down some roots in a fine establishment downtown. Great place for date night or to hang out with friends. Service is always fast and friendly. You really can't go wrong with any dish!

Yelp
now open in their own brick & mortar spot in chinatown! its chinatown, so parking is always nasty. though you can luck out. good thing is that since theyre only open for dinner you have a better chance at finding free street parking reservations are easy to make. you can always try and chance it too and just walk in. the bar usually has open spots too, but i dont think you can eat at the bar, drinks only (they didnt offer us dinner menus the last time we just sat at the bar) menu is more diverse now and not prix fixe. lots of options including daily specials. i really liked the salad, and it was pretty huge too. onion dip is always a must. the hokkaido rolls are always good to. made in house, theyre super soft and pillowy. mushroom donburi was interesting and not at all what i was expecting. especially since i was not expecting it to be crunchy! washugyu steak is a smaller portion but super tender.

Yelp
GIOVEDI Chinatown | Honolulu, HI FOOD - Hokkaido Milk Rolls: I miss Hokkaido all the time, so what a treat this was. This bread is so soft, mildly sweet, and served with a delicious contrasting rich black garlic butter. Hokkaido Scallop Crudo: My FAVORITE dish of the night. The texture was perfect and the flavors were delicate. It was fresh and each bite was delicious. Capellini Granchio: LEMON AND PASTA BELONG TOGETHER. The miso breadcrumbs brought all the umami, but I love me some acid. The crab came in bits and pieces, but not much of its flavor shined through. Mushroom Donburi: Mushroom dishes are always my favorite to try. This was good and the crispy rice was a nice treat. Char Siu: Okay, so I was utterly surprised when I tried this and loved it. I was reluctant to order it at first, but my fiancé insisted. I was not disappointed. It was tender and the five spice was delicious. Upscale take on a classic? Count me in. Now that the food discussion is over... LOCATION - Chinatown parking will always be an issue that comes up. It's fine, you'll live. People say there are a lot of unhoused individuals in the area as if it's a deterrent - have some empathy, friends. Unhoused people are humans with stories and a past like all of us. Anyway, I digress. There are lots of cool after-dinner (drinks and dessert) spots that are nearby, so that's a plus. AMBIANCE - I like the red brick walls. I miss the abundance of them from my time in Seattle. This building is one of my favorites in Chinatown and adds to the aesthetic. Not great seating (I think mostly barstools or tight spaces), so not super comfy, but it is hip, which I dig. There is a courtyard with more comfy seating, which is pretty dreamy honestly. PRICE - This isn't a spot for cheap eats and the price point is a bit higher than some in the area It is a bit pricey for what you get, but if you're choosing to have a nice fancier meal made with lots of intention and love, this is it. Tip: if you're going on a date, request to eat at the bar. Watching the kitchen wizards do their thing makes the meal even more special.

Yelp
Giovedi has been on my to-go list for a while now. I heard of them back when they were a pop up serving course meals. We recently visited for the first time at their new location in the old Encore saloon spot. Since it's located in Chinatown, parking might be tough but there are a few municipal paid lots around the area. We made a reservation on open table and our table was ready when we arrived. The restaurant has outdoor and indoor seating - it can get a little muggy outside and if it rains, they'll open and close the awning to provide shade from it. We arrived around 5:30 when there was still some light outside, but as it got darker, it's a little hard to see especially if the awning is rolled out. Maybe they can add some dim table lights to add to the ambiance in the future. Now onto the food. It seemed like the Hokkaido milk rolls were a must get - and they were also recommended by our waiter. I was a little skeptical due to the price - how good could some bread be? - but once we got the warmed rolls to our table, I devoured my share! Would agree that it is a pretty great appetizer to start the meal. We also shared the scallop curdo and ahi carpaccio. Both dishes were so good! Flavors were amazing and presentation was beautiful. I loved the complexity of all the flavors. I do wish they gave a little more - the fish and scallops were pounded paper thin so the portion wasn't super big - but still great great flavors! And of course, you're paying for the atmosphere and quality of ingredients used as well. For our mains, we tried the mushroom donburi, capellini granchio (crab pasta), the spaghetti vongole (clam pasta), and the grilled kampachi. My two favorites had to be the pastas. The crab pasta was light with a seafood flavor. There was a good amount of crab meat in there. I think our standout dish was the clam pasta though. The flavors were so strong in the best way possible. Loved the clam flavor of the dish and would 100% order this again. Since their menu is on the smaller side, I'd love to go back to try their other dishes too. Kampachi was good, but I think I'd skip and try something else next time. I only had a bite of the mushroom donburi but if you're a vegetarian, that is probably the dish for you! Our server was super attentive and seemed super passionate about the restaurant which we liked. The food came out at a good pace and we didn't feel rushed. A great, enjoyable dinner.

Yelp
.....located in the old Encore saloon...Giovedi renovated the interior and gave it a sophisticated and cleaner appearance. There is an outdoor patio seating area as well as a modern dining area. We were seated exactly at 5:00 pm on Saturday night. Cocktails and the scrumptious Hokkaido milk rolls is how we started. The rolls are served piping hot and is accompanied by the black butter. Applying the butter to the hot rolls creates a moist and delectable piece. That first bite will give you a fluffy, buttery, and salty (sprinkles of NaCl on the crust) that compliments every bite. Spaghetti Vongole is a great combination of tiny clams, XO sauce (made in house) and Onda fresh pasta. The flavors are layered into a perfect medley. The 4 out of 5 stars was for the lack of attention to detail. Empty wine and water glasses caused the "minus one star " for service. The one page food menu makes for a very simple dining experience.

Yelp
Incredibly disappointed with the taste, service and portion sizes. Came here for my friend's birthday and we had drinks and food for 7 people. The drinks were great, but with how the food was priced and described, I expected more taste and impact and it was less than ideal. The server let us know that all of the dishes were sharing portions. However, each dish was only enough for one bite for four people max. There were notable dishes we especially did not like. The Capellini Dungeness Crab barely tasted like crab even though it was $37 and the Yat Tung Chow Egg Noodle was not worth $30 at all with less than flavorful bites that I can make at home. Over the span of 2 1/2 hours, my table's water glasses were empty about 5 times and since we were seated outside, the area got humid because of the rain with no lighting when the retractable patio came out. The ambiance was not the best. Also, please note that since it is outside and we were seated on top of a manhole, there was a cockroach that I needed to squish right next to my girlfriend's chair. This is something I have not experience at all at other restaurants in Chinatown. There are definitely better options within the area.

Yelp
Ate at Giovedi with a gf and we loved it. We ordered their Washugyu steak and Dan Mien Vietnam Atricana noodles. Also ordered their Hokkaido milk rolls with black garlic butter. Everything was delish and love the fusion of Asian and Italian. All dishes were unique too. Great service as well!

Yelp
Not a lot of vegetarian options. Portions are very small for the recommendation of shared plates.

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise! A friend took us here! A neighborhood gem! It's on the corner of Nuuanu and North Hotel Street. It opens at 5pm. Trendy restaurant that has a good island vibe with outdoor seating! Our server, Jordan, is very nice and friendly. He is very knowledgeable and recommended a great wine for dinner! Our host ordered 5 excellent appetizers: 1. Onion Dip prepared 5 ways, fresh warm shrimp chips, needed more shrimp chips; 2. Beautiful Scallop Crudo translucent thinly sliced Hokkaido scallop, brown butter, pistachio, orange, crispy leeks; 3. Delicious Salt and pepper potatoes on top of aglio, olio, pepperoncino cream even if you are not a fan of potatoes; 4. Fresh Green Salad is made of butter lettuce, romaine, white endive, sherry vinaigrette, parmigiana reggiano; 5. Special Mango Freshly pulled Mozzarella. Be sure to see pictures for appetizers and Entrees! Crispy Grilled Kampachi on top of caponata, sesame, miso. Mushroom Donburi made with nanatsuboshi white and venere black rice, with cilantro pesto, pine nut, pecorino Romano. My husband loved his Spaghetti Vongole with littleneck clams, XO sauce, Onda fresh pasta. Very rich! I had the Capellini Granchio with dungeness crab shelled, preserved lemon, kani miso breadcrumbs... So delicious! Very happy with my choice that I would order it again! Desserts: Mrs. Tran's Tiramisu amaro nonino mascarpone, espresso & 5 spice Carrot Cake cream cheese frosting, ginger gelato. If you are too full, you can skip the desserts! Not the best!

Yelp
A Vedi Vedi good experience at Giovedi celebrating our girl's birthday! Wanted to support downtown eateries as well as try the new Asian/italian fusion restaurant. Reservations were easily made via Resy online. When we arrived, we were still waiting for our other two guests and were greeted and told we could order drinks at the bar while we wait. Really liked that option since some restaurants make you wait oddly at the corner or outside till all guests arrive. Ambiance was cute and vibey! Total switch from the old Encore. We were lucky and scored a spot indoors which helped since it was super hot out-- but the outdoor seating area looked kinda cozy too! Overall we had such a great time! The menu sounded so good and we wanted everything! so we ordered almost everything LOL! Our server Tony was super knowledgeable and really helpful with our decision making. Here's what we got: For starters- Hokkaido milk buns paired with a black truffle butter ($11). Very soft and tasty bread and the butter complimented it well without being overly garlic or strong Onion dipped 5 ways ($15) My mind was blown! I love onions and to have them prepared 5 different ways was unimaginable. However, Tony shared all 5 ways (I think it was like carmelized, pickled, shallots, green onion, and something else). I could be wrong but either way this dip was the right choice! Super tasty and fun to eat with the fresh shrimp chips! It was tasty and went well with our different drinks as we awaited the other dishes What was super kind was the fact that Chef was keeping tabs on our dishes and sent them out in a timely manner in which we could enjoy each dish leisurely and to its fullest. Thank you, Chef! Our favorite starter of the night was hands down the Hokkaido Scallop Crudo ($33). So refreshing and tasteful with the oranges and pistachio, drizzled in brown butter. I probably would want the entire dish for myself next time lol. Foie Gras Torchon ($34) More like pate with olive oil rustic bread. It was light and creamy but went together well with the caramelized onion and vino cotto What was super kind was the fact that Chef was keeping tabs on our dishes and sent them out in a timely manner in which we could enjoy each dish leisurely and to its fullest. Thank you, Chef! For Entrees we had: Gnocchi Mapolonese ($31) This one reminded me of mapo tofu vibes with the beef cheek ragu and whipped tofu. The gnocchi was delicate and pillowy with each bite Crab capellini ($36) Light, lemony Dungeness crab with the al dente pasta topped with Kani miso breadcrumbs. Tony shared that chef utilizes all parts of the crab and used the kani yo make this crispy breadcrumbs. This pasta was light and tasty which I enjoyed. You may want to skip this if you're into the rich and creamy pasta vibes, but personally it helped that it was light cause we had lots of food lol Lastly we had the Char Siu Pork ($40) Sous vide pork with Chinese five spice and topped with red wine plums! It was tasty for the most part but was wondering what the flat iron steak would be like instead. Tony Tip was to order it with the mushroom donburi together Ended the night singing Happy Birthday with Mrs. Trans Tiramisu ($9) which was light and tasty tiramisu. Moist with the espresso and whipped mascarpone Cocktail highlights: We had the chef cocktail which was made of fresh mango juice and other concoctions! Very refreshing for this hot day and not overly sweet The Strawbroni was a well balanced and tasty Asayuki strawberry gin with torino and Campari Overall a memorable experience and we would definitely be back! We really enjoyed the starters a bit more than our main dishes so might come back to get all the starters and drinks for another girls night! Thank you so much Giovedi for the kind and warm hospitality! We didn't feel rushed and had a lovely time with the best vibes P.S. got some things to go and almost stole a bite of the Dan Mien Vietnam-Atriciana ($29) egg noodle, lap xuong and pecorino romano. Will have to come back to try the rest of the menu! TL:DR; Worth supporting this new and upcoming restaurant filled with good vibes and immaculate service! Chefs kiss!

Yelp
Wow, $26 plus tip and tag for a plate of spaghetti seems a little high. Especially because it wasn't much spaghetti. Maybe five bites. Add two glasses of wine and I'm out the door for $70 looking for a place to eat on my way home.

Yelp
Giovedì in Chinatown is easily one of the top 3 restaurants in the area. The Hokkaido milk rolls with black garlic butter were a fantastic start, and the Hokkaido scallops were solid too. The highlight was the Mango Panzanella--so good we ordered a second round mid-meal. The Prosciutto Dianne paired well with the Asian sesame donut, and while the Washugyu flat iron steak had small portions, it was flavorful. The Char Siu pork was a standout--excellent and generously sized for sharing. I'd come back in a heartbeat. The service was great, and the back patio has a cool vibe that adds to the experience.

Yelp
A real gem hidden away! Can be difficult to find so pay attention to the directions on website/text. We came here for a special birthday dinner a few months ago and I forgot to review it. Giovedi made our occasion special by printing birthday name on the menu and letting us take it home as a keepsake. They provided us directions to the space and sent a reminder text. This is a popup so this space is temporary until they find a more permanent space. I believe their last day is in couple weeks so I won't be able to come back since they are fully booked. Ambiance is causal and small. It echos in there so it can sound very loud depending if it's a full house. We were greeted instantly by Jenn our server who happens to be the owner/chef's wife. She is local and met her husband in NYC originally. Service was outstanding. Jenn was very personable and friendly. BYOB made it even more fun! She came by to refill our champagne and sake right when they got low. I like that they kept that in their ice bucket for us. Food was a fixed menu and everything was delicious!!! $95/per person and I felt that the dishes were creative Asian Italian fusion and worth the quality. Quality over quantity for sure here. We left satisfied! Great for a special occasion. Mahalo for the food and company!

Yelp
Mother's Day was extra special with a surprise visit to Giovedi. We'd never been and my husband took a chance by making reservations and I'm so thankful he did. The food, service, and atmosphere were truly amazing! I wish I took pictures of our food but we were so excited to try everything that came to the table and with each bite, I closed my eyes and just enjoyed the deliciousness of every flavor. Spectacular food!

Yelp
Third time at Giovedi. Twice at their Popup and now at their charming restaurant in Chinatown. Same amazing owners and chef. A very special and thought out wine list and by far some of the most creative and delicious on Oahu. We are honored to put Giovedi on our top five restaurants in Hawaii. It's ironic that they are located right next to restaurant Fete our #1 restaurant but entirely different. How lucky c an we be! Our choices were: HOKKAIDO SCALLOP CRUDO brown butter, pistachio, orange FOIE GRAS TORCHON caramelized onion, vino cotto, served with olive oil CAPELLINI GRANCHIO dungeness crab, preserved lemon, kani miso breadcrumbs GNOCCHI MAPOLONESE beef cheek ragu, doubanjiang, whipped tofu

Yelp
A nice Sunday night crowd welcomed us to a late night date night. We started with the Frito Misto which was crunchy and satisfying. We didn't enjoy the aioli too much. We followed up with gnocchi + dan tien + Hokkaido rolls which was awesome. Overall a great date night

Yelp
Tried out Giovedi's new ala carte menu. They took over the recently closed Encore Saloon spot in Chinatown. The vibes were casual chic and welcoming. Service was attentive and helpful, with food being served promptly. The food is described as 'Italian-ish' with Vietnamese/Asian influences. The craft cocktails were the highlight of the meal. I especially liked the peacock tail and chromakey dreamcoat. Both were well balanced and easy to drink. The capellini granchio was an angel hair pasta with dungeness crab pieces. The flavor was very light and lacking in umami. The prosciutto San Daniele app was quite disjointed in taste and assembly. There was too much prosciutto to bread ratio. The thin fried 'Vietnamese donut' and side of pickles did little to elevate the prosciutto. It did however, pair well with the unctuous foie gras torchon and its hearty Breadshop bread. There is only one dessert on the menu. And that is the tiramisu. The mascarpone was perfectly light and creamy but the other layers were a bit dry.

Yelp
So, I finally went to try this place after hearing about it. Maybe I set my expectations too high.? My Niece and I sat down at around 6:20pm. Restaurant was that too busy for a Sunday night. Our server came to give us water, took our order at Id say 6:25pm. People started coming in, a couple of ladies sat next our Table and a bigger group sat behind us. Id say maybe 15 minutes after us. For some reason, those two groups got their orders before we did??? Can you pre order? Who know!? Past 7:05pm and WE are still waiting for our order? What the heck? Finally... out onion dips with caviar came, we are starving!! Came with 5mall shrimp chips.. 5 pieces?! Wow! Anyway, we did not complain, ate our food quietly.we asked for more chips since who knows when our real food was gonna arrive. The server comes over and oh we charge for extra chips- I'm like ok, its fine?! At this point we already waited almost 40 minutes and dis not have any energy to even say anything. Our orders finally arrived and mind you the two other ladies who arrived later than we did already finished eating! We ordered the crab capellini pasta, and I kid you not- where is the crab? Sauce also separated, it was swimming in oil!! Next order was beef Gnocchi- it was the most mushy gnocchi I had ever had in my life.! Reason I gave 2 stars is because of the tiramisu and grilled Kanpachi that was alright. Otherwise this place is NO go for me. Will never recommend. Go next door to Fete Instead, you may get a better service with sense of time management and better tasting food.
