Best Indian Restaurants in NYC | Eater NY

"For decades, the East Side has been a destination for Indian dining, but this new restaurant takes the cuisine in unexpected directions. Javitra concentrates on Northern Indian cooking, which means meals might begin with an assortment of dips and snacks, then on to main courses of flame-grilled kebabs, curries, or biryanis — the latter offering five varieties, including jackfruit." - Nadia Chaudhury

Kohlapuri Goat at Javitri At last, memorable goat curry around the corner from Bloomingdale’s. Javitri’s chef, Dhandu Ram, encourages the meat to relax during a patient, gentle braise in the pot, and wallops it with enough Maharashtrian spices and dried chiles to fell an elephant. It’s a classic good cop-bad cop routine, and it’s devastatingly effective. ($35) PETE WELLS

My son and future daughter in law recommended Javitri located in Upper East Side of New York. They ordered for us- what an amazing feast of North Indian cuisine! The aromatic flavors and textures of the food were expertly prepared and presented! Some of the most unique eats I have the pleasure of experiencing! Enjoyed my cocktail too cheers! Honored to have met Master Chef Dhanduram Who was extremely gracious and welcoming! Awesome vibes! Exceptional service! Upscale decor! Thank you for an amazing night with family! Highly, highly recommend!

One of the few Indian restaurants in UES with not one but two real Tandoors. We had pani puri, tandoori apps, malai kofta, and breads — all fantastic North Indian fare. The chef and wait staff were friendly, and they even brought us complimentary rasmalai. Thank you!

Dined here last week. Food is not authentic Indian for sure. Tried gobi Manchurian, paneer pasanda, malai kofta and Egg plant bharta. Nothing special to say about these dishes. Gobi Manchurian is really savory and crispy. Something Unique about this place is if you order signature family naan then it is one big bread. I really did not get the idea behind it. Really very inconvenient to eat the bread with curries. Ambience is ok nothing special about it. One thing I really did not like it is, they said automatic gratuity of 20% for group of people 5 and above. We are group of 4 and they still charged 20% gratuity. Not good. You may want to be careful about it if you visit this place. Overall an average Indian restaurant in Manhattan.

Decent lunch time options with okay flavors but nothing too strong. Service attempts to be good but lacks attentiveness. Personally thought the naans were the best delivered dish on the menu.

Really enjoyed the food here and good selection of beer! Ambiance was clean and aesthetic. Service was nice too, the whole experience was more “classy” than your typical Indian Restaurant. They were clearly trying a fresh take on Indian food and it worked Paneer tikka app - came in a cast iron hot plate, great flavor that popped in the mouth. Paneer itself was soft and clearly made fresh Jackfruit biryani - my first time trying jackfruit in biryani and it did not disappoint. I also love me the presentation because I love when it comes fresh out the tandoor Saag paneer - well made saag, very little heavy cream which I really appreciated, rather focused on the spices itself Naan - fresh and crispy I’d definitely go back, Indian food in general is expensive in the city, might as well pay similar prices but better food!

Google
Javitri offers a well-rounded Indian dining experience, featuring both classic dishes you’d expect and a few less common selections, adding a touch of variety to the menu. I opted for the prix fixe menu, which was overall good—nothing particularly groundbreaking, but satisfying especially for lunch. Pricing felt standard for a restaurant of this caliber, making it a solid option for a refined yet approachable Indian meal.

The food was delicious and the drinks were beautifully presented. However, the portion sizes could have been a bit more generous.

This place not only has some of the best food in the city these days but the staff as well is just as good. The Manager is so gentle and kind and goes over the extra mile to make his customers happy and try new stuff too. I’ve made it a weekly routine to go eat here not only for the delicious food but for the staff that makes it feel like a family. The food has never disappointed and comes out super fresh and hot. The menu has very good selections for people who want to eat and try different things. Hands down in my top 3 best restaurants in NYC

Yelp
Ya'll... believe it or not, I'm new to the Indian food scene but I have to say, this was a good introduction. Everything was super tasty and I tried so many different things. The Amritsari Fry appetizer was one of my favorites. It was crispy, light and well seasoned as well as the Patiala Chicken Masala which was their version of a Chicken Tikka Masala. I only had 2 drinks this time after being out all day but my first one was smooth and fruity and the second was kind of like an old fashioned (I'm sorry I don't have the names since their drink menus aren't online). We also had their classic mango lassi which was a creamy and refreshing way to cleanse my palette. Lastly, the service was incredible. ‍We were served by the general manager who did an amazing job with recommendations and suggesting dishes that I should try as a newbie. Overall it was a great experience and I deff think you should check them out for yourselves. As always thank you @javitri.nyc for having me!! What we had * Amritsari Fish Fry * Lahore Seekh Kebab * Passion Fruit Pani Puri Shots * Green Mango Shrimp * Patiala Chicken Masala * Garlic Naan * Butter Naan * Mango Lassi Restaurants near me, Indian restaurants near me, restaurants ues, upper east side restaurants, Indian food near me, upper east side Indian restaurants, authentic Indian food ny, Indian restaurants nyc, Indian restaurants New York, best Indian restaurants near me, best Indian food near me,

Yelp
Was delighted to try this place. Most of the items here are pretty yummy! Service is friendly, prompt and provide great recommendations! The fish and dal were really yummy. But my down side was the butter chicken, it was overly sweet and the chicken tasted old. They were nice to fix it but even when sending back and getting a new one it was still the same! Maybe it was an off day, would try it out again . The ambiance is vibrant modern and welcoming Must have: dal and fish

Yelp
Try this place for dinner last night. Everything was very good! Ordered the lamb chops based on another reviewer and they were awesome! Cooked to perfection, tender, and delicious! Also tried the.dum biryani with chicken. Neither of us had ever tried something like this before we both liked it. The non-bread across the top was soft, the rice and chicken were both flavorful with an ice cake. Ordered a side of garlic, naan bread that was fine but unnecessary with the dish just mentioned. The side sauces that came with both dinners accompanying them nicely. We also ordered the tiramisu for dessert. We both felt the bottom crust was a little too dry, but the top was nice. Overall, an excellent meal... I would definitely return!

Yelp
We really wanted to like this place. I think the food can do with more spices. But it is a quiet pleasant place to sit down and catch up with friends.

Yelp
I had the jackfruit biryani and dal bukhara here. The biryani had a nice blend of spices and good variety from caramelized onions. I would have liked a larger portion of raita on the side. The dal bukhara was rich and creamy, though I could have used a bit more on the seasoning to cut through a bit. The dal also came with a serving of white rice. Prices are about average at $47 total.

Yelp
Wowww!!! What a GREAT!!! Restaurant! What a great find! Definitely one of the best Indian restaurants that we have been to. The service was outstanding, so attentive, so friendly and welcoming, they make you feel at home. The servers were super attentive, they recommended some dishes according to what we liked.. which was very helpful! Especially when I'm not too familiar with Indian dishes' names. Now, the food was OUTSTANDING!!! We ended up getting the raj kachori, the chicken handi lazeez, garlic naan and the lamb chops. The lamb chops were to DIE FOR! Absolutely a must try! They are seasoned so well with the perfect amount of spice. The chicken was absolutely delicious as well, it came in a broth, kind of stew, with a bit it spice as well, so so good! The naan was exceptional and crisp, super fresh! The little onions on the side are definitely a great addition to balance the flavors of every dish. Now, I'm not really a dessert person BUT!!! The desserts are to die for! We tried the white little milk balls with pistachios (I can't remember the name) and also the round brown deep fried little sweet balls as well (I'm so sorry I can't remember the name either!), they were so so tasty and full of flavor! The chef Ram came out to the tables to check on the food, which was a great special touch. All of the servers were so attentive and helpful! The ambiance was great as well, calmed for a Sunday night perfect for a casual dinner with my husband. We'll definitely be back! Thanks!

Yelp
We went to Javitri on a whim having walked by it on the way to work. The staff were very nice despite the late hour and helped me find something to eat from their menu. The staff were super friendly. The lamb kadai was excellent. The meat was very flavorful with great texture. The samosa cigars, were good, but I prefer traditional samosa. The chicken masala had excellent flavor too. We could talk comfortably and they have dividing screens that keeps the volume comfortable.

Yelp
Hosted a large party of mine easily. Great polite service. Food was awesome! Loved the paneer appetizer, the jumbo naan and many other dishes

Yelp
Visited Javitri for a Sunday night solo dinner. Was completely blown away by the level of service that was provided. I was tended to by a waiter and two hosts, who made sure I had everything I needed. The waiters are very knowledgeable and are happy to take any customizations you may desire. I tried the lamb special with garlic naan, and the flavor was just incredible. Another detail I loved was that the head chef, Javitri himself, came out to ask my opinion on the dish!! They truly made me feel like royalty there. Will be returning to try other menu items soon.

Yelp
One of my favorite Indian restaurants in NYC! I genuinely have such a high standard and absolutely loved everything we had. My highlights were the chicken biriyani, giant naans, dhahi puri, and saag paneer. The chef and staff are all super nice and we even got to chat with the chef at the end. He's super sweet and gave us rasmalai on the house. 10/10 recommend!!

Yelp
Javitri opened recently so my wife and I gave it a try. We really liked it! Delicious Indian food, prompt and responsive service, a pleasant atmosphere and decent prices. What more could one hope for? We'll be back.

Yelp
This place is amazing :))) the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Rahul brought out the best pakoras, samosa cigars, passion fruit pani puri shots, makhana which is crispy lotus root aka fancy Indian popular. The bartender, Sonu is also extremely talented and made me the most amazing taj tequila twist made from Mangos. Lastly, the owner Jay is very kind and easy to talk to. I can't wait to go back here again!

Yelp
The food was so amazing and the service is great. I was here sitting at the bar and this is one of the best experiences with any Indian food I've had. The restaurant is very well decorated and gives off a very nice vibe. I would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Ate dinner yesterday. Both the food and the service was terrible. Biryani was too salty. Butter chicken is some of the worst I have had.

Yelp
