A Hip Neon-Lit Asian Bar Is Opening Inside D.C.’s Succotash - Eater DC

"Mr. Lee’s, a new pop-up expected to debut in early September and run through the end of 2018, draws on Lee’s Korean heritage via lots of colorful art, dim lighting, and Asian plates and cocktails. Its small menu will rotate weekly, integrating produce plucked from the Penn Quarter farmer’s market." - Tierney Plumb

After leaving NY, I traveled to Maryland to visit sis for a few days. Our adventures always center around food and this trip would be no different. Our first experience the day after I arrived was Mr. Lee’s Succotash Prime restaurant. I wondered about a cuisine that fused Korean and Southern foodstuffs. But, honey chile, let me tell you that is a happy marriage. I wish we could have eaten one of everything, if what we had was any representation of how the rest of the menu tasted. We had the deviled eggs with both options, one with pickled green tomatoes and the other with bacon jam. The specialties were on the bottom of the egg white bowl with the whipped yolks on top. There was no favorite — they were both excellent. We also ordered the smoked chicken wings. Unlike any I have had before, these wings were brined, smoked and fried for a crispy finish. Usually with this much handling the flesh of the wings will suffer. Not so with these. The brine was a flavor note, the smoke was subtle and the crisp was just enough so that the meat stayed tender and succulent. This can only be achieved by someone who is an expert at handling flesh. They were set atop a companion sauce that was like a white barbecue. Amazing! We also ordered the fried green tomato salad that had the tomatoes on the bottom with a frisée salad atop. The tomatoes were perfectly crispy and meaty at the same time. We, of course, ordered the greens with kimchi and smoked turkey. The greens were not quite as silky as I would cook them, but the flavors were all there and the pot likker was well seasoned in the tradition of the southern kitchen. Lastly (and sadly because we couldn’t eat more), we ordered the blackened trout sandwich. It did not disappoint. The fish did not suffer from being too “blackened”. It sat atop a Sally Lund bread which is tender but had enough structure to hold up to the flaky, tender fish, the caper aioli, and the apple frisée salad. Every part of the sandwich was seasoned, including the apple slices that were pickled. All of the flavors stood up on their own but worked well together as a symphony of tastes. But my review of the place and the food would not be complete without commenting on the staff. Our wait person, Kevin, was grace under exacting instructions about our meal (sis has a food allergy). He went back and forth several times to provide assurance that what we ordered would not be a risk to her allergic condition. And the front-of-house manager checked in several times to make certain we were satisfied and had everything we desired. Well done SUCCOTASH. We’ll be back and do our best to inspire others to come.

Southern food with an Asian twist. The restaurant is beautiful and not overly loud. We enjoyed being at the restaurant. Edward Lee has his own little bar on the top floor that is a more quiet and dark bar compared to the rest of the restaurant. The service was excellent, we were seated immediately and were checked on often. Never had to wait for anything. The food was excellent! Chicken and waffles were beautiful. The dirty chicken was exactly that, dirty as can be but so tasty. It was basically korean fried chicken and was to die for. The catfish was good but not as good as the other plates. The shrimp and grits were excellent and cooked to perfection. Don't remember how many shrimp were on the plate but they were cooked perfectly and it was plenty of food. Our favorite appetizer was the crab dip! Succotash is a fun upscale asian inspired southern cooking restaurant. Will definitely be back. If you enjoy drinking bourbon, chef lee has a huge list of bourbon at this restaurant. His flights are also very affordable! I didn't give this restaurant 5 stars because there's definitely better restaurants out there but this place is still top notch. Will be going back

One of the best restaurants I've ever been. As Mr. Lee has a Korean family background, his cooking has authentic Korean taste with great harmony with American Southern dish. Southern food: -The corn bread comes with brown butter, and the brown butter just let me mouth open with surprising great rich flavor. -the pork ribs comes with coleslaw. Very juicy and tender pork ribs. Coleslaw was the best one I've ever tried, cleaning up the oiliness that ribs have though it's not strong anyway. The dirty rice comes with them is seasoned with tomato base, and it's amazing. Korean infused: I am not sure he intended, but the bok choy comes with Today's caught reminded me of my Korean grandma who is the best cook I've ever seen. My grandma used to cook sidedish with cabbage, steamed gently and season with salt, garlic, hint of doen-jang (similar to miso, but Korean version). The bok choy is perfectly cooked (not too much, not too little), crispy but soft. I will definitely come back here. I am glad that I get to know him through Netflix show "Culinary Class War," and found this restaurant. PS. for dinner, you'd better make a reservation! 고마워요. 또 올게요 :)

Succotash has by far some of the best employees my family and I have had the chance to dine with! Our waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable, and ensured to make the dining experience unique and one that we will never forget! The food is equal to the quality of service, absolutely astounding! My wife and I tried the “Taste the South” meal which I would recommend to everyone! It gives you a little of everything Chef Lee has to offer while still being well within a great price for the food and experience! The kids menu covers just about everything a kid could want without being overwhelming. If you haven’t tried this place yet GET THERE YESTERDAY!

The waiter was very kind and I recommend not ordering a lot of food but all the food is good. I like how it mixes Korean food and southern food.

Google
Mr. Lee’s is a speakeasy-like hideaway on the second floor of Succotash. It has a modern Asian fusion menu and an extensive cocktail list. Beers include a range of local craft options. Wine is from Virginia, California, and Europe along with a limited selection of sake. The happy hour is available 4-7pm daily, including drink specials and inexpensive chicken wings and dumplings.

Google
The only reason I'm giving them 2 stars because the quality of customer service from hobie was superb but the food was blah blah blah. Flavorless and lacked finest. I won't be back unless a experienced chef is cooking.

Google
The building is beautiful, the food is delicious and our server LB was amazing. Very attentive, knowledgeable and good company. My husband and I did the taste of the South which is 6 course tasting. 100% worth it. Portions were larger than expected and all the food was incredible. Our waiter LB was able to tell us exactly how everything was made even down to the cocktails. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Andrea manager greeted us the the door and she was nice, told us wait for the hostess. Also after our meal she also checked I'm on how things were going and our opinion. Later Sharee the hostess came up and was also nice. It says a lot when you come in the door and everyone is positive and has a great attitude. Loved that so much. Our server was Jason. He was nice, attentive, and funny. He checked in on us mutilple times, gave suggestions, we asked questions about the menu and he was able to guide us based on what we were looking for. Overall he just made the experience for us so pleasant. Food and drinks were great. We had fried chicken and waffles with smoked wings. Both were great. Fried chicken 1 of the pieces was over cooked but honestly it wasn't bad. I had no business eating 3 pieces anyways . Wings with the sauce were so good. We enjoyed both. Drinks we had hey peaches, belle's punch, garden mule. Honestly it was a great time and with an amazing team. Andrea Sharee and Jason, Thank You all!

Yelp
I will come here again for the cornbread alone!!! So sooo soooo good-- it's not overly sweet and it has a great corn-flavor. The rest of the dishes, however, were underwhelming. The tartare was ok (the pairing with the shrimp chips was interesting), the steak was average and a bit dry, and the shrimp was good but a bit too heavy. The ambiance is very magnificent-- I haven't seen this type of interior in a restaurant before! Service was good.

Yelp
The ambiance is magnificent. You truly feel like you're eating in a spot that is elevated than its competition. Seriously high ceilings, beautiful decor and finishes on the trim & floors, etc. The service matched the environment- top notch & knowledgeable. $150 (with tip) for 4 people. Not too bad. The French toast is finished by being caramelized with Frosted Flakes, giving a crunchy finish that was quite delightful. Not too much syrup comes with the dish, so you may want to ask for more if you need it. The bacon was glorious. Maple glazed, cooked perfectly, tender but crispy. Good portion. The mashed potatoes are the best that I've had in DC. Crunchy from the skin, seasoned (rare imo), finished with garnishes. Sauces available upon request. My mocktail was okay, nothing to write home about. The cornbread is a great starter for the table. Would recommend

Yelp
I had the most wonderful time at Succotash Prime! My company reserved a table for 15 of us to celebrate the end of our fiscal year and it was a blast. We went around 5:30PM and their was ample natural lighting which was slightly filtered to allow for a more comfortable atmosphere. The wait staff were extremely polite and knowledgeable about the cuisine and recommended getting their award winning crab cake which was scrumptious!

Yelp
My wife and I came here a couple weeks ago for dinner with an InKind deal and loved it. We had the a family meal to share without the Shrimp & Grits (we don't eat shrimp) which included Devils Eggs, Smoked Chicken Wings, Fried Green Tomato Salad, Weisenberger Mills Cornbread Cakes, Creamy Corn Succotash, Old Bay Mac and Cheese, Chicken and Waffles, Smoked and Sliced Ribeye, Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie, and Hummingbird Cake Truffles. The portions were very generous and everything was amazing. To drink we had and both loved the Hey Peaches and Belle's Punch. The service was very prompt and friendly on such a busy night. The decor is also amazing in the historic atrium of a building with a balcony above us.

Yelp
3.5 stars The smoke wings were amazing. Smokey flavor and the Cajun seasoning were great. The dirty chicken were ok, it's Korean inspired but the sauce was a little much. The blue cheese were also just ok. The jalapeños were really good. Nice environment as well. Friendly staff and the Bar attendant was on point.

Yelp
Such a delight!!!! The building used to be a bank. A very old, beautiful bank. The atmosphere is lovely southern. The staff is warm and perfectly attentive. Try the pecan cinnamon rolls! I felt like they were made just for me! Delicious! The avocado toast was the best I've had! Try it!

Yelp
Immensely atmospheric experience thanks to a beautiful interior, professional service, and well thought out menu items. Their rendition of chicken and waffles is likely the best I've had; I also enjoyed the complementary textures and flavors of the pickled okra and bourbon maple syrup. I loved the presentation and taste of the pimento cheese hush puppies, paired lusciously with the cajun aioli. I tried a bite of my partner's pimento cheese burger, perfectly made to medium-rare and seasoned well. Found the asian touch of gochujang ketchup to be unique and enhancing. Even the fries deserve an honorable mention because they were perfectly chewy yet had bite, and seasoned adequately. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the cocktails. Tried both the Southern Sangria and Belle's Punch. The former was so refreshing and the flavors of the bourbon blended so well with the red wine, watermelon, and orange liqueur. I typically do not enjoy bubbles in my drinks, but Belle's Punch executed flawlessly on their combination of bourbon, mango-infused vodka, peach, and mint. If we did not have to rush to an event in the evening, we would probably have indulged in more off the menu. Would love to return to try the tasting menu or for dinner!

Yelp
Great place, good ambience, service and food. We thoroughly enjoyed this place for a birthday dinner. Yummy appetizers, good food and dessert. The cornbread was amazing, the popcorn shrimp and crabcake were out of this world.

Yelp
A great time for lunch is 1pm! This was my first time here and I will make plans to return. The hostess was trying to seat the last of the lunch rushers with reservations and our buddy lunch reservation for two was going to be delayed for 10 minutes. Well, It did not even take that long before we were seated. It was lively but not too noisy for a lunch crowd but by the time we were finished; you could tell how more relaxed and quiet the restaurant had become. The food lived up to many of the posts here in YELP!

Yelp
Best fried chicken ever! Crispy tasty and juicy. The sauce drizzled on top is delicious. Corn bread is da bomb! The restaurant itself is too cute! Loved the vibe and the service was outstanding. Wish they had this restaurant in California. I would be a regular customer!

Yelp
This was my first time visiting Succotash and I went for brunch. For brunch we had the following: Bacon 10/10 Shrimp and grits 10/10 Deviled eggs (get the bacon ones) 8/10 French toast 10/10 The staff is amazing shoutout to Tre who was my server for the day. The ambiance is nice, we sat on the first level and the next time we go I would like to set on the top level. What makes this place unique is that it used to a be a bank. Would def be back again.

Yelp
Tl;dr go for brunch I have been to Succotash twice before this review. Once for brunch and once for dinner during restaurant week. This review will encompass both experiences but lean heavily on the dinner. Overall, restaurant week is a scam and restaurants are never on their A game during this time. Avoid it if you can. The things that were on the restaurant week menu will be delineated with RW Now for the things we ordered. Coffee and cigarettes- whiskey forward. Not super well balanced, especially for the price. Very coffee forward Whiskey sour- luxardo syrup on top makes the texture of the foam weird. Drink underneath a bit watery Smoked Chicken wings- the most amazing thing I've ever eaten. We were not in agreement here, but I was a big fan. Order these Corn chowder (RW)- meh. Good corn flavor, ridiculously undersalted and the lobster inside was overcooked and unseasoned. Duck breast (RW) -ok not great. The duck itself was a bit chewy and the fat was not rendered properly. The sauce was good. The caulini had no flavor. But the star of the plate was the corn pudding. It was like a slightly fudgier corn bread that I wish I could've ordered a whole tray of Catfish- good. Would order again. Not the biggest plate and the sides were lame. The breading to fish ratio is very low. So not perfect Carrot cake (RW)- bad. Smallllllll plate. Tiny. The cake itself barely had carrot or cinnamon flavor, the cream cheese ice cream was strangely textured and flavored. The brittle was good tho, but you only got a quarter sized amount. Conversely, I had an amazing experience at brunch. Delicious belles punch. Great wings. Crunchy and sweet French toast. The most delicious maple bacon. Refreshing and tasty fried green tomato salad, and some of the best cheesy grits to top it off. My conclusion is that I would go back for brunch, but they are going to have to do some work to come back for dinner

Yelp
Seating- we went on a Thursday with no reservations and were able to sit at the bar to place orders until a table opened up. Service- we were seated at the bar first and the bartender was great. However, we then got moved to a table and our waiter, John, introduced himself then completely forgot about us. He didn't even bring us silverware or see if we needed anything. We had to flag down another waitress to ask for the bill. It was baffling and wasted so much of our time. Ambiance- classy, intimate, beautiful, but surprisingly we didn't feel out of place with our toddler. Food- catfish was so good, cheeseburger was a standard one that you'd get from a bar, watermelon pecan side was refreshing, crab cake was also standard but great for a toddler, and fried green tomato salad was the main thing I would recommend you get here. I don't think it was award-winning quality, as only a couple things stood out for us and we've had Michelin-star restaurant experiences, and we just didn't think Succotash was on the same level. Drinks- I got the grapefruit mocktail and it was great! But so small for the price. I finished it in three sips. Overall, pretty classy place with a sexy vibe. Fun to try some Southern bites. Great for dates.

Yelp
What a pleasant experience! From the moment we stepped inside, I felt very relaxed and was stunned by the beautiful dining room. It was so bright and airy. We had some stragglers in our party, but they seated us in a timely fashion. We pretty much tried everything on the menu and everything was delicious. Se were especially surprised by the shrimp and grits, that was the perfect warm meal. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
What a treat to come to this restaurant that has an updated flare for southern food. Not only were the food and drinks beautifully presented and refreshing, but our server (Phyllis) and all the staff were so cordial and attentive. My son and I ordered the "Southern Taste" which is like a tasting menu for two, but they were fairly generous portions! And well priced! We also each got a non-alcoholic drink. So refreshing! Each dish was so tastefully done (pun intended! Lol) and was very flavorful. While it is hard to choose, our favorite dish in the tasting menu was the Citrus Blue Cheese and Spicy Peanut salad. It was very fresh and the citrus was so sweet. My son said it was the best salad he'd ever had. The Shrimp and Grits were accompanied by cheese crisps, which added a special touch. We also loved the Chicken and Waffles, Fried Green Tomato and Deviled eggs. And to top off the meal, the sticky buns really hit the spot. Two last tidbits of information: 1) the building and its architecture are rich in history. It used to be a real bank back in the 1920s and you can see the room that used to be the bank vault! It has been converted to a dining nook. So cool! And the bank later became a nightclub, called "The Bank". I used to go to that club way back in the 80s! (Now I'm really dating myself!) 2) this restaurant does have separate entrance for wheelchair bound people. And their is a separate bathroom stall for disabled people. (The bathrooms are beautiful too.)

Yelp
I hadn't been to succotash since WELL before the pandemic. So finally I got a chance to go back for brunch. The space is gorgeous and the service was friendly and attentive. We liked just about everything. My friend said the hush puppies seemed off. We mentioned it to the manager, who said he'd look into it. The biscuits are wonderful and come out warm and with seasonal jam. Shrimp and grits, Chesapeake Benedict, and French toasts were the biggest hits. I had the delta bowl. It was more spicy than I expected, but good if you like a little heat. The frozen peach drink "hey peach" was really enjoyable, and their spin on the old fashioned with a hint of banana was lovely. We all want to go back.

Yelp
Tuesday 4/30/2024 Was out with the family in DC to meet a friend and my mom decided that this spot would be the best for dinner. Although it was pretty busy, we were still able to be seated in less than 10 minutes without a reservation. Our waitress provided our table with good service as she was friendly and helpful. We got a lot of items for the table but the items I ended up trying were the smoked chicken wings $13.50, cornbread cakes $8.25, pimento cheese hush puppies $9.25, bacon jam deviled eggs $7, pimento burger $19.50, chicken & waffles (main/full) $28, and the hummingbird cake $13.50. - The smoked chicken wings were pretty good. - The cornbread cakes were okay on their own but were significantly better when paired with the fruit jam and butter dip. - I'm not a huge enjoyer of them but the bacon jam deviled eggs were alright. - The pimento burger and fries were alright but I expected the burger to be a lot better. - The chicken and waffles were GREAT: The waffle was decent and the fried chicken was ON POINT. The texture was crispy (you can hear the crunch with every bite) and it was juicy. * my only criticism is that you should get a full waffle when getting the main version of the dish instead of just the extra 2 pieces of chicken (starter $14.50: half waffle & 2 chicken pieces AND full $28: half waffle & 4 chicken pieces) - first time ever trying hummingbird cake and it was solid but carrot cake is still my favorite. Overall, succotash was a pleasant surprise with some good food that I would come back for and recommend (make sure y'all get the fried chicken and smoked wings).

Yelp
Succotash has been my go-to whenever friends are in town. I have had one bad thing there. The fish sandwich is my go-to though. The service is always welcoming. On one occasion the waiter was able to get the chef to make one of my fave dishes even though it wasn't on the menu for that day. The ambiance and vibes are always cool and definitely a place where you can have a nice conversation without yelling over the tables. The decor is super cute!

Yelp
Came here for a friend's birthday brunch and really enjoyed ourselves. The restaurant is gorgeous on the inside, beautiful decor and tons of natural light from the glass ceiling. The service was kind of slow, we waited at least 10-15 mins every time we ordered a drink because they only had one bartender serving the entire restaurant. I'd rate the food a 7/10. Because we were a party of 10, we had to get the family style tasting menu. My favorites were the green fried tomatoes and the Mac n cheese, everything else was just ok. The cocktails were pretty good, the mint julep was a bit too sweet for my taste but the Manhattan was delicious. Because the restaurant is so open and there are two floors, it got pretty loud as more people came in. I'd love to return to try out some of the other menu items and of course those fried green tomatoes.
google avatar

Tia C.

Yelp
Very nice environment and servers. For brunch, the hangover skillet is amazing, but I would opt out of the toast and gravy. The deviled bacon eggs are delicious and the corn bread is good but it's very tiny. I was expecting a mini skillet but. it was just 2 palm sized pieces. I would recommend it.
google avatar

Rodger S.

Yelp
We were very disappointed with our meal here. We were attracted to the restaurant because we thought the interior would be spectacular. In fact, we learned that really only a few tables in the restaurant are special while most are very ordinary. And the food was meh. We started with the fried oysters. Too much breading. I had fried chicken & waffles. Not nearly as good as I'd hoped. The fried chicken at Unconventional Diner is much better. My husband's fried catfish was disappointing as well. Too much breading & not enough flavor.
google avatar

Aubrey M.

Yelp
Excellent atmosphere! Fantastic southern food with a touch of Korean inspiration! We had the Jamie's corn bread, tuna tartare to start, shrimp and grits and dirty chicken for entrees along with the old bay mac and cheese and cheesy grits and sausage gravy. Dish after dish was AMAZING! Our server Leonardo was so wonderful, friendly and helpful in every way! He answered any questions we had about the menu and recommended some fantastic cocktails! He made us feel like we were the only table he was waiting on (I'm sure he made his other tables feel this way also!) Next time we're in DC we will 100% be back!

Yelp
I got nothing short of a five-star review for Succotash. We came in after the Wizards game for a late dinner and the vibe of this place is elite. I love the ambiance and the dining setting. Our server was in the top 3 favorite things about this place. The fried green tomatoes as our appetizer was TOP TIER. Absolutely delicious!! Definitely would recommend this place a thousand times over and it's a must-go to when in the area!
google avatar

Jamie G.

Yelp
Now if we're going to talk southern food, Succotash is TOP TIER. Ever time someone comes in town, I bring them here for brunch. The chicken and waffles MELT in your mouth and their belle's punch is the perfect mix of boozy and sweet. Now, their happy hour is also great. Everyday from 4:30-8, meaning people who get off later in the evening can ACTUALLY get to happy hour.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to eat in D.C. The food is food is great, and the drinks are swanky. Great staff as well. They do a great job accommodating walk-ins. Tip: Try the taste menu for ~$60. Great way to really explore the menu. Love the steak, biscuits, and mashed potatoes

Hannah C.

Yelp
Service was great! Food was also great, but took a little longer than we were expecting but it was worth the wait!!! Friend chicken was to die for but the all time best was the mac and cheese!!!!

Yelp
Vibes vibes vibes. Whether in the main room or the happy hour back lounge, I love the ambiance at Succotash. Brought some visiting family here and they were equally impressed. We came for Friday lunch and it filled up quite nicely with the working crowd. The chicken wings never disappoint and they didn't this time either. I got the salad with roasted acorn squash and grilled shrimp as recommended by the waiter. Any time a restaurant makes a salad with veggies that I don't have to roast myself, I'll try it. And this delivered. The dressing could've used a little more punch or maybe just more seasoning on the dish overall but the components were great and relatively healthy. Have been many times and it continues to be a staple for me.
google avatar

Jackie M.

Yelp
The ambiance is great! Well thought out right down to the glassware used. Love that touch. As far as the food, it was a little more hipster than I was imagining. I thought it would be more of a classic presentation of Southern cuisine. Shrimp appetizer was amazingly good. Loved the cornbread and homemade jam. I enjoyed the pimento cheese burger. The drinks are a huge star part of this menu. Which makes sense as there is a bar upstairs.

Yelp
*Updated Review* I like this location and I'm glad it's still here. So many places have closed around this area. I've always enjoying coming here for happy hour. They have great deals. Recently visited during brunch (my first time) and it'll probably be my last. Service was great. The ambiance was nice. My issue was the food. I ordered the chicken and waffle. The chicken was super dry and lacked flavor. I ate most of it. I would visit again for happy hour though.

Yelp
Repeat After me - Restaurant Week!!!! Whoop whoop yayyyyy lol. So I had no idea it was DC's restaurant week. My friend and I planned to have lunch and I remember going through reviews and asking for referrals until I stumbled upon Succotash. It is a beautiful restaurant and the ambiance was just lovely. I love, love this restaurant!!!! We decided we would do Brunch. When I walked in I told the front desk person I had reservations. They were very friendly showed us to our seats. I looked at the menu and could not believe it was $25 per person. So the food came family style. It was a set menu and for starters we had Deviled Eggs and a Salad which were absolutely both delish. Main Course was Chicken and Waffles plus Shrimp and Grits. At this point I was so happy because of the shrimp and grits but the Chicken and waffles were just devine. So delicious: For dessert we had Cinnamons. I don't know what else to say. If you don't believe me check out the pictures!!!

Yelp
This place has some of the best corn bread, Mac and Cheese, and smoked NY Strip steak in the country. The service was fantastic and the ambiance was that of the South. We stumbled upon this place but boy are we glad we did. The steak was succulent and juicy, the macaroni was incredibly delicious and the cornbread was damn good. This is a gem in DC!

Yelp
Walking into the restaurant, the decoration was typical of upscale DC restaurants like Old Ebbitt Grill or the Hamilton. There were leather booths, greenery, and plenty of natural light. It was the perfect brunch spot for me and my mother in law. We started with the Belle's punch and Gojujang Bloody Mary - both were refreshing! We love trying a variety of foods, so we opted to get the "Taste the South" which featured small bites of various dishes including deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes, chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, and sticky buns. Everything was delicious and perfectly portioned. What made the experience particularly special was the kindness and patience of the staff who provided helpful recommendations and made sure our table was cleared regularly. Clearly this restaurant cares about its customers and it showed.

Yelp
My friend and I dined here on Christmas Day for a late lunch and it was very festive and warm in decor. We were greeted nicely upon entering. The overall experience was good, and we'd dine here again. Food: (8.5/10) We started off with drinks which were pretty good; I had a bellini and my friend had the Old Smokey. For food, we started with appetizers and had the deviled eggs (both green tomato and bacon jam options). The bacon jam glaze won me over! For main, I had the hanger steak cooked medium with mac n cheese and the collard greens. All were really good! My friend had the filet mignon and cheesy grits. The grits were not to our liking and we ended up returning them. I would suggest getting another side instead next time. Ambiance: (9/10) The restaurant design is two floor level, with open space and lots of natural lighting during the day. The light music in the background was nice as well. I would be interested to seeing the night time dinner ambiance is like. Service: (9/10) Our servers was busy but attentive. We had gotten there about 30 mins before the menu changed over to dinner, however he allowed us to order from the dinner menu right before the change which was really nice.

Yelp
I LOVE Succotash Prime happy hour. I came back recently right before happy hour ended to get a quick drink and a bite. I ordered the Southern Sangria, which is phenomenal. Everyone at the table was really impressed by the taste. I ordered a single deviled egg with bacon jam and my table got the hushpuppies to share. The deviled egg was great (although most deviled eggs are) and the hushpuppies, which come with 6, were tasty as well. For happy hour you can either sit at the bar downstairs or in at upstairs bar tables. The decor inside is unique - teetering on the edge of gaudy, but done exactly the right way. The food and drinks came very quickly and our server was nice. I'll be back again for happy hour!

Yelp
The ambiance was what makes this restaurant a four star. It was very cozy and beautiful inside. It was nice to just sip water and take in the view. A reservation is a must for party of more than 5 on a Friday night. We stopped by before going to the holiday market near by. I got the pimento burger in medium done. The meat was pretty rare though, but it still tasted good. The ketchup mixed with gochujang sauce was an interesting combo, but I was there for it. The burger was $18. Would I go again to this restaurant? Probably not, but I enjoyed my experience. I didn't feel like it was worth $18. My friend got the waffle and chicken starter. I wouldn't recommend it. It was plated well, but it literally was 2 pieces of chicken with a waffle under it and with maple syrup on the side. It tasted how it sounds. Overall, the menu wasn't too impressive but the inside was.

Yelp
The inside of this restaurant is beautiful. We were able to seat in a booth on the bottom floor. The service was top notch. I had the Belle's Punch to drink, it's sooooooooo good! I highly recommend. Now the food was subpar.. My girlfriend didn't like her Mac and cheese. It was also cold. I had the chicken and waffles featured. I had two pieces of waffles for all that chicken. They also put the syrup on the plate so it was also a little bit dry. The chicken was also good but on the verge of being dry and too crispy/burnt. I probably wouldn't come here again if I'm hungry but maybe for drinks! The corn bread was also probably one of the worst I've had in my life. It was dry. Didn't taste like corn bread.

Yelp
Nothing was impressive, they don't cook their steaks correctly...I wouldn't come back. Got the fried oysters, deviled eggs, and a steak with some sides. The fried oysters were so heavily breaded I couldn't taste the oyster flavor at all. It was also kind of dry. The deviled eggs seems pretty worth it...but you can't go wrong with a deviled egg. My partner and I both got steaks. We asked for medium rare and both of our steaks were rare. I didn't bother sending it back since they already got my order wrong (sent me the wrong cut of steak the first time and were very apologetic about it) but for the price I'm paying I expect perfectly cooked steak... Sides were not amazing.

Yelp
One of a kind menu and great environment and service! The location can't be beat-it's right in the thick of the National Harbor. It's got amazing decor inside and the settings make you feel like you really are in the south. We ordered non Alcoholic Belles Punch and they were very tasty and refreshing. The fried green tomatoes with the ranch dressing and arugula is epic. Now let me tell you something... I don't like pimento cheese. But whatever magic is in that pimento cheese with the bacon jam on the cheeseburger has me second guessing myself! Don't think I about goin-just go. It's worth every penny.

Yelp
Some DC friends recommended this restaurant to us. We happened to walk in just before the dinner rush and sat at the upstairs bar. The mood lighting and ambiance is almost like a speak-easy - very dimly lit but still very lively! I would recommend sitting upstairs in the back bar instead of the main restaurant! The bartenders were very friendly and attentive. The happy hour menu is great quality food for a reasonable price and the happy hours ran much later than I'm used to.

Yelp
My friend and I caught up over dinner yesterday at Succotash Prime, a restaurant that's been waiting to be checked off on both our lists for awhile. I'd recommend making a reservation in advance to secure a table. Despite it being a Monday evening, there was still plenty of people dining in. The lower level is definitely more bustling and louder, so if you want a quieter location to enjoy your meal, I would recommend asking to be seated in their second-floor terrace. Our server was very helpful and gave us a thorough rundown of the menu and the flavors/combinations of the items we had questions about. He also gave us good suggestions when we asked him for his preferences. DEVILED EGGS (EACH) - 1.50 Between pickled green tomato or bacon jam, our server said bacon jam was his favorite, so we went with it. It was a very tasty, rich and creamy bite. The bacon jam was sweet and savory. My friend and I really enjoyed this and we'd recommend it as a fun lil snack while you're waiting for the entree and sides to come out. OLD BAY MAC'N'CHEESE - 10 This is a solid mac n' cheese -- super thick, creamy and fatty -- definitely southern comfort style which was what I had expected. The crusted top was seasoned with Old Bay, but we found this to be overly salty and inedible. So we did not end up eating the crust, which is a shame because that's the best part. Maybe it was an off day because I really don't think the crust is supposed to be that salty. TODAY'S CATCH - 32 The catch of the day was a mahi mahi, which they grilled (this is good because I wanted the "healthier" option for my entree that wasn't overly fried or fatty). I got the tail piece, I think. The mint chimichurri was a nice touch on the fish, but it sat on a small bed of oil which was meh. The broccolini was alright and seasoned well, but it's just veggies. Overall, it was good, but nothing worth remembering. SHRIMP'N'GRITS - 27 My friend got this as her entree and it was huge, LOL. She had a hard time finishing it, so I ended up eating a good amount. I was pretty impressed with the quality of shrimp here, which was super juicy and fresh. I don't normally order shrimp at a restaurant because I'm often let down by the freshness, so I was pleasantly surprised here. The grits were creamy and delicious, and the Andouille sausage bits in the grits were a good addition. The flavors here were strong and the combination was a hit. It is definitely a good "elevation" of the dish, and I'd definitely recommend this. You'll food coma at the end for sure. Mostly a hit, but a couple misses. There are a couple options we got we'd definitely recommend, but others were a lot more forgettable. We enjoyed our dinner here and glad to have tried Succotash!

Yelp
Stumbled upon Succotash Prime on a Saturday afternoon. Didn't have a reservation but thankfully they had seats. Two levels with the second overbooking the ground floor. Really great restaurant layout and spacious. Service: LaBarron was our server and truth be told, this rating would only be five star because of him. The food was good but nothing to rave about - deviled eggs with bacon jam was AMAZING tho! LaBarron was the standout. So knowledgeable and detailed. Coming from the hospitality industry, there are service standards only we understand about service and many servers don't execute some of these unless you're in a fine dining restaurant or truly care about the diners experience. LaBarron was great and was a solid representative of a high class, white glove, and well thought out restaurant. The fries were good. The cookie with the banana pudding for dessert was hard. Wish it was soft and warm. Also got the sticky ribs - which were good- but tasted like spare ribs.

Yelp
I had dinner with my wife and 3 boys tonight. We were forced to pay a gratuity of 20% on our meal and drinks (!) which was ok, I guess. However, the forced gratuity was also applied to the TAX on our meal. This is not fair. The manager said, "This is just how the system works." These guys are cheaters. You shouldn't have to pay a tip on the tax on your meal. We won't be back. The 'Korean Influence" does nothing for this place. Just be good predictable 'soul food.' And treat your customers fairly. Cheaters.

Yelp
Came here for lunch with a couple coworkers the other day and had some great food. I got their Crispy Chicken Sandwich which had coleslaw, pimento cheese, and their house made remoulade. The flavors of the sandwich were great. The chicken was extremely crispy and still very juicy. My only complaint is I wish the piece of chicken was slightly bigger as there would be bites of just the breading. For dessert I got the Mint Julep Ice Cream which was super refreshing. Succotash is serving up some tasty southern comfort foods with a twist.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I recently ate at the Succotash restaurant, and let me just say how thoroughly impressed I was about the food, the service, the Ambiance, and everything else! This place is a 'must go' in the DC area! Best thing on the menu? Their cheesy grits with sausage gravy!!

Yelp
I can't recommend this place enough! The service was top notch and the food was the perfect blend of southern comfort and fine dining. The building is an old repurposed bank so you feel like you are in a historical time capsule with beautiful crown molding and skylight ceilings! Be sure to download the InKind app and pay that way on your first visit so you get $50 off a $150 purchase!

Yelp
Ambiance: The restaurant itself is lovely with two stories of dining and and a wrap around atrium that overlooks the main floor. The tables are nicely spaced so despite being crowded on a Saturday night you did not feel that you had to yell across the table. Service: Probably some of the best service we have received at a restaurant in DC. We we're running late to our reservation and had a hockey game in the next hour. Our server assured us we could get through a full meal and still get the game on time. Despite being skeptical, our food and drinks came out fast and we made it to the game with time to spare. Food: While the food was good it was not outstanding. The hush puppies were the best dish and paired nicely with the pimento cheese sauce. My wife enjoyed her catfish but was puzzled why it only came with chopped lettuce. My steak was very disappointing for the price. At $60 I expected a high quality 2in thick ribeye. What I got was something that would be served at a Texas Roadhouse. It was editable but should have been priced at $30 for what I got. Also, I had to pay $8 for a side of potatoes! If you want steak walk two blocks to Capital Grill. They should focus on good southern food and stop trying to be a steakhouse. Four stars.

Yelp
Had an amazing #brunch @succotashrestaurant in D.C.!!! The drinks are delicious and strong; we started off with Campfire Bourbon Cider and the Belles Bourbon Punch. The drinks were so good we ended up getting a double!! We then ordered the Avocado Toast BLT, 4 deviled eggs with bacon jam, Buttermilk biscuits with a berry jam and Cheesy Grits with Sausage gravy Everything was EXCELLENT & the bartender took great care of us with excellent service and great recommendations!! Can't wait to dine again!! Oh and the interior was so nice!
