Yelp
Off the Bone Barbeque is a family owned barbecue joint in downtown Dallas that serves up barbecue ribs, smoked brisket, and all your favorites in a non-descript location. What was most surprising about my trip, however, wasn't the ribs or smoked meats. I discovered the Chocolate Chip Pecan cookie.
My Overall Rating - 3 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food)
Atmosphere - You'll find Off the Bone Barbecue south of downtown Dallas. Plenty of seating on my Thursday 12:30 PM visit. I didn't find the long lines at other DFW BBQ joints, nor did I find the same charm. But it clean and seating was not a problem. 1/2 Star.
Service - The staff was very friendly. We placed our order at the counter, and later a server brought out our food. They were fast, efficient, friendly, and always smiling. 1 Star.
Food - I ordered a two-meat plate with brisket and ribs. It was good but not great. The bark on the brisket had plenty of flavor and was tender on the fatty side, but I had to dip the rest in the excellent, tangy barbecue sauce. True to the name of the restaurant, the meat fell off the bone of my ribs. They were short - like St. Louis style ribs. Tender and when dipped in the sauce, my bite was superb. But both meats lacked a heavy smoke flavor that I've grown accustomed to and expect. To finish my meal, I had a Chocolate Chip Pecan cookie. Wow. This was not only the best item I ate at Off the Bone Barbecue, but the moist cookie with generous amounts of chocolate and pecan was one of the best cookies I've ever had anywhere. 1 1/2 Stars.
Will I Return? - No. While there are better barbecue options in DFW, the Chocolate Chip Pecan cookie was fantastic. However, I'd rather return because of my meal, not my dessert. No Stars.
