Editor's Letter: A Fresh Look at California Wine Country

"On night two, you should go early to Pizzeria Vittoria, Kyle Jacovino's next-level pizza joint in Starland Yard, the outdoor food court fashioned out of shipping containers. Jacovino sources freshly milled flours for his long-fermented dough; his blistered, wood-fired pizzas, like the Diavola, with 'nduja, soppressata, and preserved Calabrian chiles, rank among the best in the country." - Hunter Lewis

In Starland Yard, chef Kyle Jacovino turns slow-fermented dough and Southern grains into benchmark wood-fired pies. Lauded by Food & Wine and celebrated by local critics as Savannah’s top pizza.

This spot is inside Starland Yard. You have to enter and add a card on file, then you go to the various spots inside and they charge your account and then you pay all at once at the end. Pizza was very good and the atmosphere was great, but it took quite a while to get a pie.

We recently ordered the Quattro Formaggi and was told they couldn’t make it half without guanciale, as our daughter doesn’t eat pork. The pizza itself was nice and light, but as you can see from the pictures, it was lacking in both sauce and toppings. The underside of the crust was slightly underdone, while the top was perfect. Overall, it’s a nice pizza place at Starland Yard, but it could use a bit more balance in terms of toppings and sauce.

I'm not a big fan of Neapolitan style pizza. This pizza is a 6.4 rating like most Neapolitan pizzas should be. It's in Starland Yard and I really like the atmosphere there. Service is fine but when they get busy it takes 30+ minutes to get your pizza, which is not atypical for freshly made pizzas

The pizzas crust are too burnt for us to enjoy the entire meal. We were only able to enjoy the center of the pizza. Such a shame to spend $18 for a pizza to only somehow enjoy 45% of the food we ordered. So gagged I couldn’t even bring up that the pizza too burnt to the guy who handed the pizza to me.

This is inside and connected to the Starland Yard, which from Google Maps wasn't clear and a fun surprise. We had the La Diavola pizza which was SUPERB! We bought wine from Vittoria, and beer and whiskey the Yard Bar. It was rainy which dampened the crowds, but our experience was top notch.

I had the Margherita and Pepperoni pizza. This is truly an authentic Neapolitan pizza. The combo of sweetness of the dough and fresh ingredients makes a huge difference. This spot is a must. This place is in the cut, and you definitely need to put that GPS on. Parking wasn't too bad but limited. In the mini Plaza you have a small bar, a hot dog truck, and a dessert truck. Next time I'll try the other trucks.

Nice place located in the Starland Yard food court. We never went inside, but you don’t have to. They have someone outside to take your order. Very convenient! So we chose the daily special. That was our mistake. The flavor was amazing, but it had a lot of veggies and they were piled in the middle of the pie. It’s a shame because it could have been the most wonderful pizza ever. With so many other choices at the Starland Yard, we will have to go somewhere else.

We had a Margherita pizza from Pizzeria Vittoria Napoletana, which was delicious and light, prompting us to order a second one! I highly recommend visiting, especially when the weather is nice. 🩷
