"An unassuming roadside smokehouse in Sturbridge that serves some of the best barbecue in the region despite New England’s reputation. The brisket—smoked 24 to 30 hours over local apple and hickory wood—is the standout and can be ordered à la carte, in a Reuben-style sandwich, or on a platter with classic sides like collard greens and mac and cheese. Located between I-84 and I-90, it’s an ideal pit stop for drives to or from Boston, New Hampshire, or Maine; expect long lines, so aim for the 11 a.m. opening or a late-afternoon lull, or order meat to go, grab a beer next door, and eat on the hood or curb. It isn’t glamorous, but the barbecue is astonishingly good." - ByAmanda Shapiro
