"What I wanted: the un-B&B B&B—a hotel both spotless and modern, a hotel where it didn’t feel like an innkeeper was watching my every coming and going. And at the 15-room Salt House Inn, I found it. Classically New England on the outside (the cedar-shingled, immaculately restored nineteenth-century building once housed salt miners: hence the name), it has a crisp, sunlit, minimalist interior that’s largely whitewashed walls, shiplap paneling, and hardwood floors—no fusty flourishes in sight. Although the Salt House is only a five-minute walk from Commercial Street (Provincetown’s main drag) and just a short stroll from the ocean, it’s easy to lounge around here for hours—not least because of the delicious breakfast, which when I was there included homemade pastries, lox, and fresh-squeezed juices. Sip a cup of coffee on the upstairs sun terrace while breathing in the fresh sea air and you won’t be able to stop yourself from booking an extra night. –Jody Quon"
