"Echoing the rags-to-riches story of Cheong Fatt Tze, the eponymous boutique hotel is widely known as The Blue Mansion. Constructed in the 19th century following a consultation with the era’s leading Feng Shui master, it was intended as a lavish place of residence for the Chinese capitalist's descendants. Time and tragedy, however, resulted in the mansion falling into disrepair until a group of conservationists tackled the monumental task of restoring it to its former glory. Today, each of the 18 rooms within its distinctly indigo walls is furnished with antiques and artworks from Tze's family alongside modern amenities such as espresso machines and deep soaking tubs. Catching a live performance in the central courtyard is a must, as is joining the guided tours that allow insights into the mansion's varied roles (ranging from affordable housing for families to a filming location for Crazy Rich Asians) over the past 130 years." - Samia Qaiyum
