"Come for the food but stay for the six-lane bowling alley at long-running supper club Sister Bay Bowl in Door County, a peninsula on Lake Michigan. First operated as a hotel and adjoining dancehall in the 1950s, Sister Bay Bowl became a supper club when Earl and Rita Willems bought it in 1964. A small bowling alley where guests can sip old fashioneds between strikes replaced the dancehall a half century ago. The couples’ descendants now run the establishment, and customers are served by cooks and waitresses who have worked there for 30 or more years."

Just off Highway 42 in the village of Sister Bay, this quaint inn is housed in a charming 1902 building that's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The 6 country-styled rooms (absent of TVs and telephones) feature private bathrooms, antique beds and free WiFi. Most have handmade quilts. Homemade breakfast is included and served on the enclosed front porch, on the back deck or fireside in a common room, which has a flat-screen TV, a VCR and a video library. Cookies and lemonade or coffee are provided in the afternoon. The backyard has a deck with umbrella-shaded tables. Kids age 13 and older may be permitted with prior notice.
