"How did it strike you on arrival? With its pastel-pretty, graphic façade there’s a dash of Miami about Adina Apartment Hotel Bondi Beach, a modern stay in a prime spot on Bondi’s foodie Hall Street, a few minutes’ walk from the iconic beach. Nice. What’s the crowd like? Surfers, beach lovers, backpackers and flashpackers from Australia and overseas are drawn by Adina’s hot location in Bondi, one of Sydney’s most desirable seaside neighbourhoods. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. Sydney architects Bates Smart designed the Scandi-chic, calm, contemporary interiors, including 111 studios (sleeping two) and one- or two-bedroom apartments (sleeping three or five maximum). Neutral palettes are pepped up with accents of coastal colour and surf photos by Bondi gallery Aquabumps, with rooms featuring kitchens and inviting balconies. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us? Vibrant patterned cushions pop on pale, comfy King, Queen or Twin beds. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? Entry-level studios have a mini-bar and tea- and coffee-making facilities, with a microwave, fridge, kettle, plates and cutlery. Higher tiers have a full-size fridge, oven, dishwasher and washer-dryer. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. Spacious bathrooms feature showers, with baths available in one-bed apartments, and two bathrooms with showers over baths in two-bed apartments. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word? Free Wi-Fi at 1Mbps for four devices per room, with high-speed Wi-Fi for a fee, USB charge points, an iPod dock and flatscreen TV with Foxtel. Room service: Worth it? You’ll find delicious dining in Boheme, Adina’s mixed-used complex, including all-day restaurant and breakfast-favourite Bills (where you can charge meals back to your room), China Diner (pan-Asian), A Tavola and Da Orazio Pizza + Pochetta (both Italian), Blanca (fusion), Bondi Hall (coffee) and Gelato Messina (ice cream). A food precinct below includes Harris Farm Markets (fresh produce) and Pasticceria Papa (Italian cakes). Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why? Friendly staff man the 24-hour reception. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you. A 20-metre outdoor lap pool in the back yard offers loungers, sun umbrellas, tables and chairs. There’s also a gym and underground parking for a fee. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? The appealing lobby has a retro, mid-century-modern feel, teaming leather lounge chairs with grey sofas, curvy coffee tables, colourful geometric-patterned rugs and chunky pale stone walls. Bottom line: worth it, and why? From swimming in the surf to cocktails on the balcony, what’s not to like?
