"Opened in 2013, the History and Discovery Center offers visitors the chance to experience the area’s past in a visceral way through a series of fascinating photos, artifacts, and film presentations that revisit such historic events as the building of Henry Flagler’s railway and the 1935 hurricane (known as Hurricane Three) that nearly demolished the Keys entirely. The permanent exhibitions also detail the Keys’ most famous pirates as well as its first people. While the museum covers lots of ground, it's laid out in a way that forms a full narrative and gives visitors a thorough overview of how the land they're standing on came to be.
