Tulum Treehouse

"Why book? A sleek, minimalist respite, the concrete property was built with artists of all types in mind, with its on-site ceramics kiln and weekly live talks, music performances, and more. Set the scene: Top creatives in their field gathered to create this secluded, five-room oasis on the jungle side of Tulum’s beach road. Something like a hotel-concept store hybrid, the Tulum Treehouse is a celebration of modern Mexican design. Centered around a pool and open-air kitchen (run by Noma alum, Edoardo Fiaschi), the guesthouse includes a working studio with an outdoor ceramics kiln and a shop by Xinú, the top Mexican perfumery. The backstory: Tulum Treehouse is the collective effort of a diverse group of local artisans, builders, craftspeople, and international designers. The property’s makers come from very different backgrounds but are united in their commitment to using local, organic, and sustainable materials whenever possible toward the creation of a welcoming and collaborative space. The rooms: The property has five rooms, each evoking the effect of staying in a private home, some with outdoor showers and private terraces overlooking the mangrove jungle. The aesthetic is contemporary Mexican, with polished white concrete walls and warm tzalam wood accents. Some rooms have outdoor showers and private terraces overlooking the mangrove jungle. Food and drink: The Kitchen, the property’s restaurant, is helmed by Noma alum, Edoardo Fiaschi, who crafts a menu of locally-sourced, Yucatecan-inspired dishes, most cooked over an open fire. Corn also takes center stage and is ground at the property’s own stone mill using pre-Hispanic techniques, including ancient forms of fermentation. The restaurant often hosts culinary workshops and dinner parties at a 20-person rooftop dining table overlooking the jungle. The neighborhood/area: The property is located on Tulum’s beach road but tucked within the jungle side, away from the noise and crowds. The service: The service is low-key and rooted in an artist-based experience of the property. Eco effort The property has solar panels and uses a waste management water treatment system. They also have eco-friendly amenities and organic food. Anything left to mention? The creative hub of the Treehouse is a minimalist studio with an outdoor ceramic kiln, where guests and artists in residence can practice and experiment." - Michaela Trimble
