Conrad Dublin

"How did it strike you on arrival?Located across from the National Concert Hall and just a few minutes from two of Dublin’s most beautiful parks, the Conrad benefits from its dreamy location. Although its setting hasn’t changed, its recent €14 million ($16 million) renovation has cemented its reputation as one of the most impressive hotels in town. The bright lobby, which draws influences from the nearby Iveagh Gardens, is filled with branch-like light fixtures and neutral greens—a color scheme that continues in the rooms. Another impressive thing to come from the refurb is The Coburg, a sexy brasserie with impeccable food. Nice. What’s the crowd like?On concert nights, it's music-lovers out on the town. Otherwise, you'll see business travelers and Dubliners popping in for a cocktail. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.Rooms are muted and calming, with woven blankets, Irish art, Nespresso machines, and international charging stations. Some have private balconies—a rarity in Dublin. How about the little things—any other bright spots to note?Turndown means dimmed lights, slippers on a bedside mat and, perhaps most importantly, Butlers chocolates on the pillow. Old-school service at its most hospitable. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whatever stuck with you.The snazzy gym is open 24 hours a day. Dinner in The Coburg is a must; though craft beer fans should hit up Alfie Byrne's, which has 33 drafts. Bottom line: worth it, and why?Although it's not all that impressive from the outside, the Conrad, one of the unsung heroes of the Dublin hotel scene, has managed to nail luxury without sacrificing style." - Nicola Brady
