Pura Gunung Kawi Sebatu

Hindu temple · Gianyar

@cntraveler

"Located half an hour north of central Ubud, Gunung Kawi is a magnificent collection of temples that were first built in the 11th-century, after Hindus migrated from Java to Bali. Commissioned by Udayana, then the king of Bali, the temples are all designed to represent members of his family. Gunung Kawi is fairly low-key—there isn't much awareness among travelers (yet). But we were beyond impressed. The temples, carved into the rocks with green foliage growing around them, look like a mystical jungle sanctuary." - Anna Chittenden
