"Once a highly influential West Village gastropub credited with popularizing the gastropub movement since its 2004 opening, this long-running restaurant closed permanently in late January 2020 after more than 15 years. Its demise followed public allegations of serial sexual harassment by the owner, a state civil investigation, and a settlement in which he agreed to pay $240,000 and a portion of future profits to 11 former employees; the business also struggled financially, with the owner saying it had been “running in the red” and that attempts to raise funds or sell the operation failed.
