Whole Foods’ Affordable Supermarket Lands in East Austin | Eater Austin

"An affordable, streamlined version of the sustainable-grocer concept, this 30,000-square-foot store — part of a concept announced in 2015 with seven locations nationwide and a recent Cedar Park opening — is slated to open in late 2019 adjacent to the Plaza Saltillo station on Comal Street in Austin. Designed by local architect Michael Hsu, who is known for sustainability-minded projects such as the South Congress Hotel and ATX Cocina, the location has earned public support from City Council Member Pio Renteria, who emphasized the community’s desire for better access to fresh fruits and vegetables. The store will join several restaurants in the surrounding development and will offer Amazon-era services the chain has implemented, including same-day Prime Now delivery in Austin." - Erin Russell
