"At 1010 King Court in Kingsland, Texas, I visited a quaint early-1900s green-and-white Queen Anne cottage that was disassembled from Round Rock and lovingly restored by the owners of The Antlers Inn. Inside the wrap-around white porch, lacy gingerbread trim, fish-scale green roof, and polished hardwood floors give it charm, while tasteful vintage photographs and paintings—plus behind-the-scenes photos in the adjacent Club Car Bar and upstairs lounge—nod to its role in the film without descending into cheap gimmicks. After dining on an elegant menu that balances seafood and steak for dinner (with classics at breakfast and sandwiches, wraps, and burgers for lunch), I wandered the patio, sipped a cocktail, browsed movie merchandise like shirts and bumper stickers in the Club Car Bar, and even walked down the infamous hallway where Leatherface’s scenes were shot. Several staffers claim the house is haunted—lights flashing, phantom footsteps, and objects moving—and guests can spend the night at the next-door inn for a weekend that mixes good food, relaxation, and a little spooky history." - Marisa Mirabal
