"Built around DIY tabletop griddles that let diners cook individual pancakes at their seats, this Portland-founded concept—started by Ashley Berry in 2009 off Belmont—leans on brunch (notably pancakes and mimosas) but also offers savory pancakes and other dishes across breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The brand, which has expanded to Maui and Singapore, has applied for a full alcohol license for a Highland Park location at 5022 York Boulevard (the former site of a French restaurant and, earlier, Recess); an opening date has not been announced. Marketed as a family-friendly, hands-on brunch spot for kids while providing alcohol and coffee for adults, its arrival has drawn pushback from community members who worry that more bars and alcohol-serving restaurants along York are accelerating gentrification and displacing longtime residents and businesses." - Farley Elliott
