"Founded five years ago by Will and Jennifer Samuels, I find the seasonal King Cake Hub to be a pop-up that gathers dozens — in fact more than 70 — bakery and restaurant king cake options in one place; it returns this season to Zony Mash Beer Project and is marking the shorter-than-average Carnival with a Jan. 5 countdown party that starts at 9 p.m. and culminates with the cutting of the first king cake at midnight. This is the second Carnival season since Will died of esophageal cancer in September 2021, and the Hub also hosts King’s Day pop-ups (including one at the Historic New Orleans Collection on Royal Street at 9:30 a.m. and another at Bywater Bakery at noon). The Hub opens daily at 8:30 a.m. beginning Friday, Jan. 6 (King’s Day), at 1464 S. Broad Street, selling king cakes until they’re sold out through Lundi Gras on Feb. 20." - Clair Lorell
