"Since first opening in the 1980, Uptown Pizza was a continual source of affordable day- and late-night food for the area; even after bar close it delivered magnum-sized pizzas with toppings like Buffalo chicken, BLT, and twice-baked potato on a just-thin-enough crust that was ideally suited for soaking in the ill effects of a night spent shutting down the Uptown Bar or CC Club, and there were always coupons to keep prices down. City Pages first reported that the restaurant’s Facebook page showed a “permanently closed” sign (the last Facebook post is dated February 7), though the website still says it’s open and the phone goes to a full automated voicemail. Over the years the awning became sun-bleached and delivery was outsourced to online services, but it retained that gungey Uptown sheen from the old days when the neighborhood was a landing zone for beautiful weirdos; now it joins the chorus of nostalgic restaurants and bars that have faded into lore." - Joy Summers
