"Founded over 70 years ago in Santa Barbara, McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams operates out of a 1930s dairy in downtown Santa Barbara where the family-run company makes rich, custard-based ice creams with 18 percent milkfat. They source milk and cream from Central Coast cows and partner with farms and purveyors to create signature flavors—best-sellers include Eureka lemon, marionberry, double peanut butter chip, Turkish coffee, and chocolate-covered strawberries—and offer seasonal, limited-release flavors like churros con leche; their scoop shops also sell cookies and ice cream sandwiches. The brand is expanding its small collection of California scoop shops with a new 1,000-square-foot, southernmost storefront opening at the Forum in Carlsbad by early summer, timed to the limited-edition summer flavors and National Ice Cream Month in July." - Candice Woo
