"On opening day (Wednesday, May 22), I watched Ariana Madix and Katie Maloney finally open their long-awaited sandwich shop after years of delays, including a chef change and permitting issues. A crowd of roughly 125 fans queued for hours—some in tears—before the doors creaked open at 10:22 a.m., creating pandemonium inside as diners chased selfies with the owners. The 15-seat Jon Hutman–designed interior feels cozy and rom-com–ish, with trellised walls, upholstered benches, sage accents, iron sconces, white marble tables and mirrors—“granny-core gone wild.” The sandwich menu, named for famous women and priced $14–$18, arrives on aluminum trays with a pickle spear and a bunch of grapes: the Meg (Greek salad, tzatziki, feta, sun-dried tomatoes and romaine on lavash) is refreshing; the Diane’s baguette is a bit tough but its Sicilian tuna salad is serviceable; the Cameron is an overstuffed Italian with pesto garlic aioli, salami, soppressata, mortadella and roasted red peppers; and the Viola, a smoked turkey and chipotle mayo panini on grilled sourdough, is a favorite for its spicy-rich profile. Maloney’s mother Teri singled out the Meg and the Reese (chicken salad) as favorites. Pastries play a supporting role but are solid—the chocolate cookie is like a crinkly brownie and the croissants stand tall and golden-brown. Overall, Something About Her is a respectable daytime option in West Hollywood: amply portioned sandwiches that taste good and are priced on par or lower than neighborhood spots, a cozy window booth for people-watching, and a team that handles the inevitable opening-day hiccups with care." - Rebecca Roland
