"An on-staff zoological manager, Leslie Storer, provided expert commentary on large reptiles and flying animals after inspecting photos online; she concluded the dragons would be strict carnivores with dentition like carnivorous monitor lizards (e.g., Komodo dragons), lacking grinding molars and therefore unlikely to consume plant material. She emphasized that carnivores eat less frequently and that some reptiles can endure days, weeks, or even many months without food as metabolism slows in cold weather and later speeds up, and that carnivorous reptiles typically swallow prey whole or sometimes cooperate to take down larger animals (making war elephants a conceivable food source).
