"Housed in a chalet-like building in the Milton-Parc neighborhood directly east of McGill University, I describe this 24-hour café as a longstanding day-and-night caffeine source that operated as a Second Cup before closing and reopening as an independent café in 2017. Senior night staffer Lakou Bil works from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., serving a mostly student and professor clientele who come for post-party snacks or a quiet place to study; on quieter nights the calm lets staff step out from behind the counter to socialize and even help students with essays. Disorderly incidents are rare—Bil recalls the police being called only twice in eight years—but night work requires diplomacy and charisma when dealing with intoxicated or loud patrons." - Audrey Carleton
