"Scheduled to open in 2019, I describe Alcalá as an upscale, full-service restaurant in Oakland’s quiet Montclair neighborhood; it will seat 62 with a 10-seat bar at 2084 Mountain Blvd and occupy the third floor of a newly constructed mixed-use building designed by Lowney Architecture. The name references the Arabic word meaning “the citadel” or “fortification.” The menu will focus on traditional Spanish dishes — especially paella and meats cooked on a wood-fired grill — plus the charcuterie and tapas that helped make La Marcha popular. Owners Sergio Monléon and Emily Sarlatte have brought on chef Raiden Brenner, who has experience at Oakland spots such as Oliveto, Cultured Pickle Shop, and Duende." - Ellen Fort
