"After a 13-month saga that included opposition from well-to-do neighbors and a disgraced former councilmember, I watched the self-described “Jew-ish” deli finally open its Georgetown bagel shop at 3428 O Street NW; the fourth location in under two years, painted pink and teal, won zoning approval to convert the former GreenWorks Florist building and secured the necessary construction, occupancy, and health permits. Known for long lines, the shop now uses social-distancing markers and non-contact pickups and will remain pickup-only even after city restrictions lift; it accepts online pre-orders from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for pickups from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Top sellers include a pastrami, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich and an option with candied salmon, cream cheese, cucumbers, and crispy shallots, while chef Daniela Moreira bakes babka muffins and black-and-white alfajores. In the lead-up to opening, the owners reconfigured the business for the pandemic, opened a standalone shop in Capitol Hill and a bagel trolley in Bethesda, changed the names of their wood-fired bagel sandwiches, and issued an apology for co-opting Black culture." - Gabe Hiatt
