"I'm tracking updates on the arrival of CoCo Ichibanya, a Japanese curry rice eatery known for a customizable menu that lets diners choose their preferred spice level and how much rice they want. Base curry plates come with everything from chicken and pork cutlets to vegetable croquettes and fried squid, with additional toppings that include sausages, garlic shrimp, and mushrooms. The extremely popular chain has more than 1,400 locations worldwide but only a few in the U.S., mostly concentrated in the Los Angeles area. A location was slated for Kearny Mesa on Convoy Street—originally scheduled to open this spring but postponed until summer due to pandemic-related delays—and the company says it is diligently working to find the quickest and safest way to open; construction was scheduled to start this month with the goal of opening their doors at the beginning of 2021." - Candice Woo
