"After a two-month closure, popular Ferndale ice cream shop Treat Dreams reopened over the weekend with an updated lineup of over-the-top sweets. The creamery’s founder Scott Moloney announced a new partnership with D’Vine Cookies owner Rebecca Abel in January that coincided with a rebrand of the flagship shop at 22965 Woodward Ave. Abel tells Eater that the newly dubbed Treat Dreams Dessert Emporium underwent a full gut renovation as part of the revamp and now sports a “modern industrial” interior with white cork countertops and black upholstered booth seating. A new gift shop area sells retail candies from local purveyors such as Spun Sugar Detroit cotton candy, Dave’s Sweet Tooth Toffee, and Guilt Chocolate bonbons. “It’s a really cozy place to come for dessert,” she says. The menu has also undergone a major retool and now sports a list of “Instagram-worthy desserts,” Abel says. Customers can expect to find options like giant, five-pound ice cream sandwiches called Dreamwiches on the menu alongside 14-layer cakes, towering ice cream sundaes, fancy torched marshmallow-topped hot chocolates, and D’Vine’s own brand of edible cookie dough. Visitors who’d like to sample a few desserts can order a “fleet” — Treat Dreams’ version of a beverage flight with half scoops of items like tiramisu, cheesecake, bread pudding, and cookie dough ice cream. The dessert bar is also selling Cannelle Patisserie macarons, pies from Rock City Pies (the Ferndale-born company operated by Rock City Eatery), and Zingerman’s coffee and espresso drinks. Abel and Moloney plan to expand into breakfast in the future with cinnamon rolls and other baked goods. Treat Dreams Dessert Emporium doesn’t have any firm plans at this time to shake up the menu at its sister ice cream shop in Detroit at this time. “Right now we don’t have any plans set in stone, but our goal is to open additional locations later this year,” she says. Treat Dreams Dessert Emporium is open from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday." - Brenna Houck
