"Once a series of storefronts, restaurants, and hotels built along the railroad tracks after the Civil War, Underground Atlanta became the city’s earliest commercial district and was covered over in the 1920s to raise the street level, turning many buildings on what is now Lower Alabama into basement spaces and, during Prohibition, speakeasies—a history that the Pigalle absinthe bar nods to in both vibe and design. Lalani Ventures purchased the property in 2020 from WRS Inc. and is working to revitalize the entertainment district with new restaurants, bars, retail, and art installations; recent and returning tenants include the music venue the Masquerade, Dolo Pizza, Daiquiriville, and Future Showbar (an LGBTQ-friendly restaurant, cabaret, and dance club), and MJQ nightclub is relocating into the former Dante’s Down the Hatch space by the end of the year." - Beth McKibben
