"Opening Wednesday, May 10, chef Fares Kargar has brought his popular Inman Park Persian restaurant to Alpharetta, taking over the former Traditions Indian Cuisine space on Old Milton Parkway. Delbar—whose name means “heart, captured” in Farsi—is a culinary love letter to family gatherings in Kargar’s native Iran and the women who taught him to cook traditional Middle Eastern dishes; he pays particular homage to his grandmother, who often baked bread in a tandoor, which is reflected in the many breads served at the restaurant. As in Inman Park, the Alpharetta dinner menu centers on dishes inspired by his upbringing and travels, including adas polo (lentil rice made with tahdig), gheimeh bademjoon (lamb shank stew), Chilean sea bass spiced with saffron, and chinjeh (prime sirloin with saffron, onions, and a yogurt marinade). Weekend brunch offerings include shakshuka, barbari bread sprinkled with turmeric and sesame seeds topped with whipped feta and candied pistachios, sosis bandari (beef links with potatoes, onions, tomatoes, and taftoun bread), and a Turkish-style breakfast spread that feeds four. Cocktails lean into Persian ingredients and imported spices—barberries, cardamom, Persian dried lime, and sour cherries—alongside beers on draft, a selection of natural wines, sharbats (cordial), and non-alcoholic drinks made from fresh fruits and flowers. The Alpharetta location will initially open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday, with plans to expand to seven days a week and add lunch and weekend brunch later this summer." - Beth McKibben
