"I learned that Coffee Cycle began as a tricked-out coffee cart mounted on a tricycle that founder Chris O’Brien pedaled around San Diego—he'd been working in the coffee industry since age 16 and never owned a car—and later found a permanent spot in Pacific Beach, operating a small cafe on Grand Avenue since 2017. Their new Voltaire Street storefront in Ocean Beach houses room for a five-kilo roaster where O’Brien will roast the beans for a beverage menu featuring single-origin drip coffee, flash-chilled iced coffee, and specialty drinks like lavender lattes and a honey freddo (an espresso shot shaken with local honey). The cafe makes its own cashew-macadamia nut milk and all flavored syrups, serves mocktails including a virgin mojito and a passionfruit and butterfly pea tea refresher, currently offers empanadas from Empanada Kitchen and will soon introduce in-house sandwiches. The space includes a backyard patio and will host education classes and meet-and-greets with the coffee farmers the company works with directly." - Candice Woo
