"Opened by pro baseball player-turned-restaurateur Mike Cordero, the 5,000-square-foot industrial-style Rockwood Sports Bar in Gainesville replaces a Ruby Tuesday and seats about 200 guests across three full bars and indoor and outdoor tables; one patio has a beer-garden theme while the other has more of a lounge vibe. It slings wings and red velvet milkshakes and features items such as Southern fried chicken, pork belly Cuban sandwiches, and bacon-chicken fritters with chipotle radish sauce. After running a limited menu earlier in the month, it will open for full service on Thursday, May 31, with the first 100 guests on opening day receiving T-shirts, and projected hours of 5 p.m.–2 a.m. on weekdays and 12 p.m.–2 a.m. on weekends for brunch and dinner. The spot is part of Cordero’s growing Northern Virginia restaurant group." - Tierney Plumb
