"In the modern-meets-historic dining room of the Italianate mansion formerly known as Montfort Hall, I gathered with 24 friends and strangers over lemony handmade pasta, fork-tender short ribs, and velvety chocolate budino served in vintage teacups during a Supper Club dinner. Sarah Shepherd and chef Liz Grandchamp created the Supper Club to evoke intimate, old-fashioned dinner parties and to invite locals to experience the nine-room boutique hotel and event space without booking a stay. Restored and reopened in 2018 by Shepherd and her husband, the hotel has opened part of its space to visitors and was named one of Travel + Leisure’s “World’s Best New Hotels.” The Supper Club features rotating, Italian-inspired four-course menus (future themes include seafood, Piedmont, and Italian American), two seatings each evening, aperitifs in the Parlor before dinner, and optional wine pairings chosen by Raleigh wine professional Halsey Merritt; upcoming Sicilian-themed seatings are available to book online." - Matt Lardie
