"Across from Capital One Arena at 575 7th Street NW, I found Mi Vida’s largest location yet — a 356-seat, single-level restaurant with a sizable patio that opens nightly for dinner (4 p.m.) and will add lunch, happy hour, and brunch in May. The full-scale renovation preserves familiar Mi Vida motifs (a life-sized steel-and-fiberglass tree with flowers and hand-painted butterflies, signature pink fins, rose-gold lit screens, and intricate tile work) and adds a woven textile installation made in Mexico around the bar that co-owner Michael Reginbogin calls unique to D.C. The menu brings over brand favorites — vibrant ceviches; mole negro–soaked enchiladas; stretchy queso fundido flecked with chorizo; tacos topped with braised pork, marinated skirt steak, achiote‑marinated mushrooms, and crispy cod; slow-braised duck layered with corn tortillas and a spicy roasted habanero cream; fried churros with chocolate dipping sauce; and a sharable “Sabores de Mexico” platter starting at $43 — along with roasted tomatillo salsa from their 14th Street outpost. Drinks are a highlight too, with reliable margaritas and agave cocktails available by the glass, pitcher, and tasting flights and one of the largest selections of tequila and mezcal in the city. The Penn Quarter spot will also lean into its location with concert-tied themed parties and specials." - Tierney Plumb
