Heinz Black Kitchen Initiative’s Pop-Up Brings a Taste of Charleston to Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"Selected as an Open Kitchen grantee and based in North Charleston, South Carolina, My Three Sons is a family-run soul food establishment whose menu and story were spotlighted in the Atlanta pop-up: they served fried chicken, fried fish, mac and cheese, red rice, collard greens, cabbage, and their famous seafood rice, and Antwan “Cake Daddy” Smalls prepared desserts including red velvet cake, carrot cake, and bread pudding. I learned that Antwan applied for the grant while stationed in Kuwait and shared a poignant family history—losing their youngest brother Courtenay in early 2020, relocating to a larger space that spring, then facing the pandemic—and that the family is humbled by the chance to raise the restaurant’s profile and honor Courtenay and their late mentor, Ms. Alice Warren; Lorraine Smalls described meeting Samuelsson as amazingly warm and familiar." - Denise K.
