"Set along the Sacramento River on the West Sacramento side, I see a two-acre architectural landmark that marks Drake’s Brewing Co.’s first expansion outside the East Bay. Originally envisioned as a community gathering place for a developing part of town, the Barn centers on a curvy cedar pavilion designed by Dutch architect Jerry van Eyck — its sprouting-seed form earned a first-place International Design Award for architecture in 2017. The site is built for big events, with an open meadow, three music stages, fire pits surrounded by lounge seating, space for festivals and concerts, a 400-seat beer garden and outdoor bar, and rotating food trucks on weekends (the Barn has already hosted Off the Grid events). A 38-seat cocktail bar is slated for winter and more amenities were promised through 2019. Drake’s beers will be a major draw, with 50 taps pouring classics and limited-edition, barrel-aged beers. The Barn opened to the public on Oct. 24 (grand-opening hours were Oct. 24–28) and began regular hours starting Oct. 31: Wed–Thu 11:30 a.m.–10 p.m., Fri–Sat 11:30 a.m.–midnight, Sun 11:30 a.m.–9 p.m." - Janelle Bitker
