"A seafood destination that opened in May 2024 in Inglewood and closed permanently on Thursday, May 1, 2025. Chef Sergio “Checo” Peñuelas confirmed the closure to Eater by phone but declined to go into detail about a specific reason. “Unfortunately, we had to close at that location even though business was good, but we will be back with another restaurant soon,” says Peñuelas. Peñuelas first rose to local acclaim when the late Jonathan Gold lauded his pescado zarandeado in an LA Weekly review in 2011, and Gold later dubbed him “the Snook Whisperer” in a 2017 Los Angeles Times story; the chef’s signature repertoire includes pescado zarandeado, seafood cocktails, aguachiles, and ceviches. After operating a viral backyard pop-up and building a cult following, the brick-and-mortar lasted under a year before closing; Peñuelas and his family are now taking time to weigh their options." - Bill Esparza
