"A longtime south Austin honky-tonk, bar, and live-music venue at 12010 Menchaca Road is closing on Sunday, August 11 after its landlord gave the lease to a different business. The owner, Michael Morgan — who took over after his mother, longtime proprietor Nancy M. Morgan, died in October 2023 — says he wanted to renew the month-to-month lease that had been in place since the pandemic but was not given the chance. Known for its community-oriented, “living room extension” vibe and welcoming atmosphere, the venue hosted regular concerts, karaoke, open mics, shuffleboard and other programming and will mark its last weekend with a three-day “Blow Out With a Bang” festival (Aug. 9–11). The team hopes to reopen in a new location and is soliciting suggestions. The business traces its roots to 1934 as Dotson’s, was renamed in 1993, added live music in 1997 under Nancy’s management (she became owner in 1998), and secured a liquor license in 2014." - Nadia Chaudhury
