"On the busy Hayes Valley corner where Stacks closed during the pandemic, I see Hazie’s, the new Hat Trick Hospitality restaurant (from the team behind the Brixton and Rambler) opening at 501 Hayes Street on Thursday, August 11. Billed as a collaboration with Joey Altman, the menu leans toward shareable plates and smaller items informed by his career — from TV hosting to working under Emeril Lagasse and Jeremiah Tower — including an Oaxacan cheese fundido topped with pork carnitas, chicken wings fried until crispy in a red chili-ginger-lime glaze, a halibut crudo with bright Sicilian lemon vinaigrette, a burger finished with brie and roasted garlic aioli, a grilled pork chop for two with cheesy rice grits, and a vegetable ravioli with house-made ricotta and roasted tomato butter. Victor Pichardo’s beverage program skews tequila and mezcal-forward — highlighted by Hazie’s espresso martini called Maluma’s Martini (tequila, espresso, Kahlua, simple syrup) and a spicy margarita with jalapeño- and habanero-infused tequila, cucumber syrup, lime, cilantro, and agave — alongside a considerable wine list (California and Oregon plus French and Spanish imports), local beers on tap (HenHouse, Standard Deviant, Ghost Town) and bottled/canned options. For groups there are large-format cocktails like Go Ask Her (tequila, strawberry syrup, orgeat, agave, lime) served tableside in a crystal dispenser with strawberries, and an abbreviated zero-proof selection (the Cosnopolitan, the Non Bender, the Nogroni) plus nonalcoholic beer and prosecco. ROY Hospitality Design has dressed the space with bold wallpapers, vintage lighting and speakers to create a rock‑and‑roll yet comfortable vibe, and hours will be 4 p.m.–midnight Wednesday–Thursday, 4 p.m.–2 a.m. Friday–Saturday, and 4 p.m.–9 p.m. Sunday." - Dianne de Guzman
