"On our first day in Lima we took a walking food tour with Lima Experience, which gave us a new frame of reference for the rest of the trip: we tried chicha morada (a sweet drink made from purple corn), ceviche with the spiciest leche de tigre I’ve ever had, and regional fruit like lucuma, which tastes a little like a sweet potato. Our local guide taught us the history of each dish and Peruvians’ relationships to them, and because she knew the city she took us to less obvious spots we wouldn’t have found on our own — beloved street vendors, hidden alleyway stalls, and a massive market geared toward Lima residents. She also advised doing the food tour early so you know what you want to seek out later, advice we found invaluable." - Annie Harrigan
