He bought the place after being a regular because he didn’t want anyone to tinker with the model; since taking over he’s kept it affordable and unpretentious, refusing to jack up prices or pursue a liquor license so the vibe stays what it is, offering only beer and wine and game-day deals like half-priced baskets of wings and pitchers of (domestic) beer. The decor is an enduring mishmash of music paraphernalia, hand-painted artwork, stickers, neon signs, and televisions left by the previous owner, and the staff—including executive chef Pedro Méndez and front-of-house Jacqie Lopez and Tanner Pierce—have largely stuck with him through the transition.
