"Tucked inside an alley next to a smoke shop on Main Street, this new Parisian-style bar from Esther’s Kitchen chef James Trees opened in late December and features graffiti-style art, flaming absinthe cocktails, and rich pours of malted milk. A splash of paint marks the entrance at the end of a narrow corridor behind two buildings at 1407 South Main Street; the refurbished industrial space is covered in spray-painted murals of astronauts, peace signs, and Banksy-style balloons. Behind the bar, bartenders mix cocktails like the light and fruity Le Plaisir de Scotty with rum, apricot, and sour cherry. The J’accuse starts with a rinse of absinthe set aflame before the scorching glass gets filled with a chilled blend of apple brandy and amaro. Le Big Mac, made with malted milk and a whole egg, is nearly as thick as a chocolate milkshake. While the space will soon function as a companion piece to an adjacent French bistro, it also serves a small selection of bar snacks such as nuts and spiced chunks of watermelon. Open daily from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m." - Janna Karel
