"I’m excited about a new casual, counter-service wine bar debuting in Little River on June 13 that follows a Mediterranean “tin to table” concept: tinned fish, caviar, and charcuterie let guests build their own meals. Located in the former Sherwoods space, there’s no menu or table service—diners browse shelves and coolers, select snacks and drinks, and eat at their tables or on the patio. Owner Caroline Strauss says, “I fell in love with the simplicity of tinned snacks with some good bread. A salty treat that you can get anywhere—cheap, variety, and always a hit.” Jacqueline Pirolo, beverage director from Macchialina, leads a wine program Strauss describes as unique and playful, and their partnership grew naturally from years of working together. The name Magie (pronounced ma-ji) is French for creating special moments and reflects an informal, quirky atmosphere. Designer Sofia Cirincione of Velvet Hammer blended an old-world café vibe with a relaxed neighborhood feel—dark colors, mixed-match furniture, a bistro-style checkered floor, a bronzed ceiling, and mostly thrifted vintage couches and large chairs—while old-school and low-fi hip-hop set the tone. The space is community-focused, hosting local vendors and talent, live music on weekends, pop-up thrift and maker markets every Sunday, and pop-up chef collaborations; Strauss, who has lived in the Little River/MiMo area for nearly a decade, wanted to create a place for locals and says she’s proud to be in the neighborhood." - Olee Fowler
