"Reopened following an extended COVID-19 closure, Avenue B Grocery and Market — Austin’s oldest grocery store — began serving again on Friday, June 3 at its longtime location, 4403 Avenue B, where it has operated since 1909. I note that the Hyde Park gem offers a deli menu of sandwiches (roast beef, turkey, egg salad, and pimento cheese) with various trimmings, plus salads and soup in colder weather, and also sells chips, snacks, sodas, and beer; there is picnic seating outside to enjoy the sandwiches. Owner Ross Mason, the tenth owner, has worked at the shop since 1984 and runs it largely as a one-man operation, accepting call-in orders except during the busy noon rush. The grocery is theoretically open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., though hours may vary." - Erin Russell
