"At 2948 College Avenue, I can finally get scoops from San Francisco’s Humphry Slocombe, which opened today in the 1,150-square-foot shop that Ici vacated in November. Ice cream chef Jake Godby and partner Sean Vahey will be working from a full kitchen to create the brand’s strange and surprising flavors, including secret breakfast (bourbon ice cream with house-made cornflake cookies) and a rotating, seasonal set of Berkeley-specific flavors such as a vegan cashew-based “Berkeley Bar,” peanut butter curry, apricot crisp, and a sour cherry blood orange yogurt. They emphasize genuine local sourcing, folding in ingredients from vendors like Eclipse Food Co., La Tourangelle, TCHO, and the Rare Barrel (whose barrel-aged beers will be the base for future boozy offerings). This is Humphry Slocombe’s fifth location — complementing widely distributed pints and outposts in the Mission, Ferry Building, Oakland, and Venice Beach — and the name is a cheeky allusion to the 1970s British sitcom Are You Being Served? Hours are Monday–Thursday 1:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m., Friday–Saturday 12:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m., and Sunday 12:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m." - Caleb Pershan
