"I stepped into a gilded mid-century modern wonderland at Tradd’s — the East Bay Street redesign opened in October 2018 and even took home the 2018 Eater Award for Design of the Year. Any hints of the building’s former life as the fine-dining spot Cypress were long gone: the bright dining room feels refined yet unpretentious, with local art on the walls, brass fixtures, a zinc bar, and touches of animal print. Co-owners Tradd and Weesie Newton drew directly from their own home for the palette, and I learned the pervasive green paint was later designated “Tradd Street Green” by Sherman Williams after they chose the color. Having run Fleet Landing for 15 years and moved back to Charleston from Vail, the Newtons intentionally aimed for a more fine-dining concept that still felt welcoming and comfortable — not a typical Southern, Charleston restaurant — with food that doesn’t require a lot of explanation; as Tradd says, “it feels good to be on East Bay Street.”" - Erin Perkins
