"After more than two years of planning, a Tijuana-inspired street-taco concept is set to open in Chinatown on June 15 in a 1,778-square-foot space at the base of the Lotus apartment complex at the corner of Spring Mountain Road and Procyon Street in the Shops at Lotus. The menu highlights specialty tacos — notably an al pastor with rotisserie-marinated pork, cilantro, onions, cilantro sauce, and pineapple — and a nopal taco as a vegetarian option featuring flame-grilled cactus, melted cheese, cilantro sauce, tomato, and avocado. Corn tortillas are made to order and a salsa bar is offered; the lineup also includes burritos, breakfast fare, mar y tierra fries topped with grilled shrimp and steak, and quesadillas. Co-owners Julian Hakim and Aram Baloyan, who grew up in Tijuana and opened their first location in 2013, have expanded the brand to six restaurants from San Diego to Miami." - Susan Stapleton
