"Founded by the Morse family in 1997, this Marshall-based brewer grew into one of Michigan’s largest operations, distributing across the Midwest and to parts of the East Coast and gaining wider attention through a History Channel series. Best known for labels such as Crooked Tree IPA and Raspberry Ale, the company experienced a notable decline in in-state sales between 2017 and 2018 but is moving forward with a pending ownership transfer to a larger Michigan brewery. Company leadership says the deal will not result in layoffs and that the brand and its owners will remain partners in the new structure; under the shared management group the plan is to expand the sales team, keep existing labels and customer programs unchanged, allow cross-placement of beers in each brewery’s taproom, collaborate on special releases, and pursue gradual operational improvements, with the transaction expected to be completed by the end of December pending state approval." - Brenna Houck
