"Located at 631 Assembly Row in Somerville, Parla XXI is the roomy, more polished sibling to Parla in Boston’s North End that debuted a few weeks ago and brings the original’s Dungeon Master program to Assembly Row while adding a much bigger liquor selection and more space. The vibe is described as a bit sexier than the North End outpost, and the full liquor license allows the team to go hard on rums and offer an extensive amari list — over 50 options — while still carrying over the original’s focus on interesting shrubs and shrub-based cocktails. The Dungeon Master remains a mug-club-like journey of 20 secret cocktails (rolled on a 20-sided die) with staff who will accommodate allergies but not pickiness; finishing all 20 earns you a custom-named cocktail and other perks, and there are additional higher levels beyond that. Food is treated with care and leans eclectic-Mediterranean with small plates meant for sharing: beignets and patatas bravas echo the North End menu, pastas are available in small or entrée sizes, steak appears at both locations though prepared differently, and chef Alessandro De Luca urges patrons to “get the pasta, get the crudos” (and the Caesar). Parla XXI is open 5 p.m. to midnight Sunday–Thursday and 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday–Saturday, with weekend brunch coming soon; reserve via Resy and choose indoor or outdoor seating." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal
